| Newbie | CD/DVD Drive I have had recent problems with the driver for my CD/DVD and last evening, an associate, with much more computer knowledge than I, resolved the problem by refering to this site and discovering that it was due to a Vista Upgrade. Everything was fine this morning, until my son loaded ITunes onto the system and the CD/DVD drive shut down, wth the message "This Device cannot start Code (10)". My associate has decamped for the Holidays. Can anyone else out there advise me. A very senior Anthony. |

| Post No Evil ;) | Re: CD/DVD Drive Hello Anthonyand welcome to the Vista Forums ![]() The easiest method to correct this, As the problem is very recent, is by use of vista's System restore Have a look at the tutorial here ... System Restore - How to - Vista Forums When performing the restore select the point closest to the install of itunes but before this time, you may actually find a restore point that states install itunes or similar. Note that as this resets the system to a point before the itunes install it will remove that install. there have been a few problems with some recent itunes releases not being fully vista compatible so if you need to re-install you may want to check that you, or your son, have the latest release before trying again. |

| I Tunes hates Me | Re: CD/DVD Drive Quite often installing new copying software screws with the registry settings for your drive and they have to be reset by deleting the upper and lower filters , this is worth a try (the following is taken from a microsoft support article........... LowerFilters Step 1: Start Registry Editor Start Registry Editor. Step 2: Delete the UpperFilters registry entry
Step 3: Delete the LowerFilters registry entry
Restart your computer. After you have done this, try to access the CD or DVD drive. If you can access the CD or DVD drive, and if you do not receive an error message, the problem is resolved. You can reinstall your CD or DVD writing or recording software. If you cannot access the CD or DVD drive, or if you receive an error message, unfortunately this content is unable to help you any more. Go to the "Next Steps" section for information about how you can find more solutions to the problem. |

| Antidisestablishmentarian | Re: CD/DVD Drive It's the filters setting - Archie has done such a nice write up I won't have to refer you to another post in another forum, so this should get you working again. |
