If so, there are no drivers. Cables don't need them, nor does a cable converter. Am I missing something? - rs232 cable converter - Google Product Search Perhaps you mean the item being connected to the cable? If so, what would that be? |

| Win7x64 | Re: i need help lol Yeah, there are drivers for these devices, but you need to know which device you've got. Currently, I have a Belkin and a Xircom, and the latter does what I need it to do: Xircom Xircom 1 port USB to Serial Converter Driver Summary If you look at your device itself, it'll almost certainly have a brand and model number written on it. Although these things are getting old, you might still be able to find a driver that provides adequate function. |

Also, her nomenclature is a little confusing as she stated "usb to rs232 cable converter" , not a "USB to Serial Adapter", thus my "no driver" response. | Win7x64 | Re: i need help lol Yeah, a driver is required because the USB device is instantiating a classic PC serial port (Rs232) as far as the OS is concerned. It's not just a matter of splicing the wires into a different connector. USB and Rs232 are not interoperable on that level. I agree though - a bit more info from the OP would go a long way. Edit: these are mostly used on laptops nowadays - machines which need a serial port for whatever reason but don't have one built-in. To operate ancient GPSs, barcode readers, diagnostic equipment... |
