| Vista Ultimate x64 | driver choices Hello I am somewhat new at this so be gentle. I have been experiencing a couple of problems on my computer that is only 3 months old. When I resume from sleep, at times the monitors do not come on no matter what I do. Also, when they do come on, there is a bubble message always telling me that there was a Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered error. (nvlddmkm) I was looking at the Windows Update and now I am quite confused as to what drivers should I chose to update with. Windows shows a driver that is 85.2 MB which was released in May, 2009 but that's about all the info they provide. I checked with the manufacturer (Dell) and they are showing a release date of 11/19/2008 on Version: 6.14.11.7823, A02. According to Nvidia, it's Quadro Release 182, Version: 182.65 63.5 MB. I have a Dell T7400, using Vista Ultimate Service Pack 2, Intel® Xeon® CPU X5260 @ 3.33GHz, with 16.0 GB of RAM, on a 64-bit Operating System and my card is NVIDIA Quadro FX 5800. Could someone provide me with some assistance as to what drivers I should chose please? ![]() Thank you in advance. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 | Re: driver choices If you're talking about the video driver, get it from the manufacturer's website. Generally you do not want to download drivers from "Windows Update" if they can be found on the manufacturer's website. Since this is a desktop PC, I would get them from Nvidia's website. Before downloading the drivers, you need to make sure you know which video card you have installed. Also make sure you download the 64-bit version, since you have Vista Ultimate x64. As for Windows Update, make sure you at least download and install all “Important” updates, then look at the “Recommended” files and decide if you want to install or not, (I personally recommend you do), note that drivers can probably be found on the manufacturer’s website as stated earlier. Good luck |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: driver choices Hey thanks guys for the quick responses. Since you both suggest to download from NVIDIA, I will. And yes, I do download the critical/important updates from Windows, as well as the recommended ones. It's just with that bubble every time i wake the computer up got me bugged out as to what's the best course for action. I'll give it a try and see. I do hope there is a way in Vista to "go back" to a previous version of a driver similar to XP. I'll post my experience and again thanks |
