Go to C:\Windows\syswow64 and execute odbcad32.exe in order to work with your MS office databases.
Alternatively you can also run the file from C:\Windows\System32 which has the same odbcad32.exe file.
Hope this helps !

Thanks for the reply, I have done all of that and still doesn't work. What I realized the other day is that a page will come up OK if it is html and also with a connection to the database but it is when I make a recordset I have the problem.

My Computer

Evening all,

I have a similar problem :(

Running XP x64 and have installed office 2003 onto the PC

All the apps I need run excel for when I have a spread sheet that requires the ODBC connection to a Oracle database.

I have installed the 32bit and 64bit Oracle client, yet it refuses to run.

I get 2 errors:

[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connection identifier specified

Then:

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager]Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed

Then I get a prompt for the username, password and server.

In the 32bit Data Source Administrator I can connect to the server through the System DNS.

Why on earth can I not connect using Excel.

I have read: The 32-bit version of the ODBC Administrator tool and the 64-bit version of the ODBC Administrator tool display both the 32-bit user DSNs and the 64-bit user DSNs in a 64-bit version of the Windows operating system

Yet I cannot make heads or tails of whats needed.

Any input or help would be greatful.

Many Thanks,
V1K45

Hi

Your Office 2003 is 32bit correct as their is not a 64bit version of Office 2003 ? So you only need a 32bit ODBC Driver for Oracle, thus I would uninstall the 64bit version in case it is for some reason being picked up in instances you do not realize and then just configure the 32bit Oracle TNS listener (or Oracle Instant client) to connect to your target database, if that works then configure a 32bit DSN (user or system) to use it and you should then be able to connect with your application.

Alternatively OpenLink Software have a suite of ODBC Drivers including Oracle for both 32bit and 64 bit windows (and many other OS'es), and I would download our 32bit Windows Oracle Driver and try that. These can be downloaded by selecting on of the solution presented in our new solution wizard at:

OpenLink Software Download

You may need to change your database version and server operating systems if they don't match those I chose.
