Please help me!

Here is what happened:
My PC is in sleep mode so I tap Esc a few times, then get to the locked screen and my mouse and keyboard are no longer working so i press and hold power to shut it down.

Next I start it up only to find "Missing Operating System" so I basically start freaking  out shut down and restart, then reset, hit the kill switch, etc only to find the same message greeting me again.

I try to calm down, get some sleep and started working on it this morning.:zip:

I have Vista Ultimate x64 so i search around on google and find that there is a recovery disc downloadable iso... yadda yadda yadda, i eventually get to the repair screen but I don't have any operating system showing. So I read in the forums here for a bit and basically can't find anything so I just click Next without having an operating system showing.:sarc:

Then I click Startup Repair simply because I thought it sounded like the best option for me at the momment, considering I can't startup my computer so I think it should be repaired.:p

So now for the last hour I have been staring at the Startup Repair say "Startup Repair is checking your system for problems..." and a status bar reads "Attempting repairs..." with an animated blue line scrolling across. I think I'm going to go insane  if I have to keep looking at this. PLEASE help me, should i restart? How do I get my old operating system recognized in the first recovery screen? How do I get my PC back online so I can enjoy my $2000 paper weight?

**NOTE: before clicking startup repair i did go into CMD screen as instructed by this handy YouTube Vid... when I typed c:/ it said that drive was RAW so I was left in either d:/ or x:/ (which is where it started me in CMD) Please help me and thank you for your time in solving my problems.

Cheers cplearner;)

wait and see what happens leave it over night if you can (i know its a long time but you need to be sure ;) ) , if yuo get no joy post up the make and model of your laptop , it most likely has a repair partition ( a seperate partition on yuor hard drive with your operating system and system files) with your specs we can tell you how to go about reformatting (you will loose all you data though depending on the types of reinstall offered you could save you documents etc it all depends)

I had a similair problem with my PC. When coming out of sleep mode, the PC would not respond to the mouse or keyboard. I have had the problem for several weeks and have tried a variety of things. Always ended up doing a hard reboot by holding the PC power button until the PC shut down and then i could restart it anhd everything would be okay for awhile then when left unattended and going to sleep I could not get it to respond. On Vista Forum, there was a post of a similiar problem that said to remove Windows Update KB 943899 for the bios and to use the bios version Nov 07. Sue enough, that did the trick. My PC has been off and on all day and not the first freeze up or lock. May be worth a try.
