hp laserjet 1012

Am running Vista Home Premium, 32 bit with all current critical updates installed. I cannot get Vista to recognize this USB printer hp laserjet 1012. I have read the previous posts on this forum about this problem and tried the solutions given. No luck. This printer used to work under Vista, but not now. I did download and install the latest drivers from HP during one of my attempts to "Add a Printer" so they are there. I really want to use this printer. (I do have a Canon ip3600 inkjet (or is it bubblejet) which is a nice printer but uses a lot of ink. The ink for these printers seems more expensive than rocket fuel. I would rather not use it for ordinary text printing which I do a lot of.) Any more suggestions for getting this printer to work would be welcome. Thanks.

Never mind people. I got it to work now. When I did the "Add a Printer" thing, I had not related the printer to DOT4 port (Generic IEEE 1284.4 ) . I re-did with this as the port and voila! (I got this from a more recent post on this forum that I had overlooked earlier. )
