I downloaded the 'driver' on the gateway website:
http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?id=21360&uid=263185599

after downloading & Extracting the file. a 'read-me' file pops up.

it reads:

=============================
Overview

This document describes the steps necessary to install the Tablet PC button drivers for the notebook computer models listed in the Applicable Part Numbers section below.

Installation

1. From the Start menu, right-click Computer, and then click Manage.

2. In the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.

3. In the left pane, click Device Manager.

4. In Device Manager, click the plus sign (+) next to Human Interface Devices.

5. Click Tablet PC Buttons, and then from the Action menu, click Update Driver Software.

6. The Hardware Update Wizard displays. Click Browse my computer for driver software.

7. In the Update Driver Software dialog box, type or browse to the C:\Cabs\D20113-002-001 folder. Click Next.

8. Open the D20113-002-001 folder and confirm the selection of the qttabbtn.inf file. Click Open.

I get stuck at step number 5.. I do not have a 'Tablet PC buttons'!! (this is the reason why I need to download it..).. it seems to me this 'driver download' is actually an update for the driver. and not the driver its self.?

I downloaded other drivers from them, for my computer and they all worked great.. they all had easy 'install' buttons... but this one... nooo.. it has some kind of step by step thing that doesn't work!

I talked to several tech people at gateway... each one just sent me to the same page to download that same 'driver update'...
and then finally the last one I got my point across that THAT driver step by step does not work.. and they told me that the 'last option' is to send me to some tech support thing called 'answers' that you have to pay 59.99 for a half hour of tech support... I don't know about you. but thats steep!!

anyways.. I hope someone can help me..

After opening the qttabbtn.inf file (installation script), I found these alternative names for "Tablet PC Buttons." Try finding one of these names in the Device Manager:

"Quanta Computer Inc."

"Quanta Computer Tablet PC Buttons HID Driver"

I also found this 'help' article:

Identifying Desktop Components

You may know you need a new video driver, but you are not sure which video card you have in your computer. If you still have a copy of the Purchase Receipt that was shipped with your computer, the receipt has the information you need. On that document, you find the name and part number of every component installed in your computer. After you have that information, you can find the correct driver. For sound, video, and network cards, you need to know the manufacturer of the card. For example, many of Gateway's newest video cards and all of the newer sound cards are manufactured by Creative Labs. If you have a Voodoo 3 video card, it is manufactured by 3dfx. Other drivers can be found in the new menu structure.
If you do not have your receipt, there are still a number of ways to find out what components you have installed in your computer.
If you are using Windows® 98, the easiest way to find out what you have installed in your computer is to check System Information. To do this, follow these steps:

does it have to be under the 'human interface devices?

heres a screen clip of whats under 'human interface devices':

screenclip.jpg

the reason why all my drivers were gone, is because I did a completely new clean install of windows vista. I purposely clicked the button that 'deleted everything on disk'.. but I didn't know that it would delete my drivers..
(I also didn't know that the buttons on the front of my computer worked only if it had the driver on there and installed..)

thanks so much for trying to help me!

My Computer

I stumbled across this post because I was having the exact same problem. I wiped the hard drive clean, and then realized I had a ton of drivers to put on my C140XL in order for everything to work correctly. Anyway, I was having the same problem with the Tablet PC buttons.

I finally found it in the Device Manager under "Other Devices" I had "Mass Storage Controller" and "Other Device" (I think that's what it was called) listed. When you double click on the "other device" and it brings up the other window, I saw on one of the tabs that it was listed as Tablet Buttons. Then just follow the directions in the Gateway instructions from there. It worked just fine for me.

Hope that helps!

My Computer

Thanks everyone I've been having the same problem and now it works, except my rotation button still doesn't work! Any ideas on how to get it to work? I've tried the recommendations in the manual (setting up "hold down" button) but to no avail. Please help! Everything works except for the rotation button

Everything works again! Just install ALL the drivers that have an exclamation next to them, lol. Not so technical but it worked! Thanks to everyone who contributed

My Computer

I'm also having problems with my sound recorder! The microphone works because I can see the bars move when I speak, but the bar doesn't move on the sound recorder! All drivers have been installed as well. Anyone have any ideas to what is going wrong?
