    CD/DVD drive gone - Help?

[Firstly, I'm sorry if I put this thread into the wrong forum.]

This is an issue which has been bothering me for too long, and now I'm annoyed, so I decided to do something about it. I found this little thingie from Microsoft's website, and so I started to follow the instructions...

    In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    Okay. I found it.

In the right pane, click UpperFilters.

    Note
You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 8.
    Alright, I found the UpperFilters...

On the Edit menu, click Delete.
When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
Okay, now I deleted the UpperFilters.

In the right pane, click LowerFilters.
Oka-- Hey, wait, I can't find that!

Note If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content cannot help you any further. Go to the "Next Steps" section for information about how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.
    Aww, shucks.

And so I will check the 'Next Steps' section...

If this method did not help you, you might want to use the Microsoft Customer Support Services Web site to find other solutions. Some services that the Microsoft Customer Support Services Web site provides include...
And so on. It really didn't help me, unfortunately.

I even tried to use the Fix It -thingamabob, but it didn't help me at all. As you can see...

It's telling me what I already know - The CD/DVD drive isn't detected and the problem isn't fixed.

As you can see, the CD/DVD drive is not where it's supposed to be. It has gone 'poof'. And this is making me crazy! I can't play games or such anymore...

Thanks in advance, any help is loved.

Edit: Oops, I forgot to tell a bit about of my laptop. It's an Acer Aspire 5520, it has Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit and... That's pretty much all I know. (I feel a bit silly now. Ah well.)

    Hello Pupu,
Go in to the Bios and see if it is detected there, post the results and we can go from there.

Go to the device manager and un-install the DVD/CD drive, reboot and see if it has come back.
This will re-install the drivers, Vista may pick it up and show the drive again.

Umm... Well, I'm not the best when it comes to Bios stuff, but when I checked the Bios, it didn't mention the CD/DVD drive... Expect in the section called 'Boot'. That section had a 'Boot priority order' list, and the first one was IDEO... IDEO something. I can check that later, if it's important. Anyway, the second one on the list was 'CD/DVD:', but I assume it should tell the name of the CD/DVD drive... Or I'm not sure.

I tried that, but the guide tells me to delete LowerFilters, but I can't delete it, as I can't find it. D=

I actually don't get that error message.
I had the UpperFilters on my laptop, but I can't find the LowerFilters.
I've been trying to fix this issue since February... Hopefully this can be fixed, because otherwise I can't play any games (well, maybe a few games...) on my laptop anymore. D=

*sigh* My CD/DVD drive is nowhere to be seen. D=
