...Which Is The Right Dell Dock Download?

Hello,

There appear to be two different versions, 1.0 A03 and 1.5.3 A10.

1.0 A03: http://http://support.dell.com/supp...dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=265024

1.5.3 A10: http://http://support.dell.com/supp...dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=295245

The Dell Dock website has the 1.5.3 version, but neither have XP down as compatible, just Vista, so if I were you, download the Dell Dock from delldock.com and see if it works, and if not try the older version, but you may not be able to get eitehr version to work.

Wow...not only have I misunderstood your original post, it (the original) is a little confusing to me nonetheless.

Hello,

There appear to be two different versions, 1.0 A03 and 1.5.3 A10.

1.0 A03: http://http://support.dell.com/supp...dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=265024

1.5.3 A10: http://http://support.dell.com/supp...dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=295245

The Dell Dock website has the 1.5.3 version, but neither have XP down as compatible, just Vista, so if I were you, download the Dell Dock from delldock.com and see if it works, and if not try the older version, but you may not be able to get eitehr version to work.

Richard
By "neither" do you mean neither of the 2 docks on Dell's website, or neither of the 2 sites I posted?

I'm asking since first you said the delldock website (which I guess wouldn't be dell's website) has the 1.5.3 version, but then you said "neither" have XP down as compatible...I guess you mean neither of the two versions on Dell's website, not neither "delldock.com" and "dell's website"

Also if the delldock.com version doesn't work...don't see the point in trying out dell's if they, dell thesmelves, are literally saying it's not compatible with Vista...with my recent bad luck with computers, even taking a small risk as trying to dl an application stated to be non-compatible with my operating system is not something I want to do, but hey, I just might do it..

Also, I thought your recommendation was to first try the one from the delldock.com site...well that's what your original post seemed to be saying.

My Computer

Sorry about the confusion. Read this post and forget all the others.

The delldock.com download has a version of 1.5.3 A10. This is the same version as of this Dell Support Link: (1.5.3 A10) Therefore it does not matter which of these you download.

Drivers and Downloads

There is one more version available (1.0 A03) This is only available on the Dell Support website. Here is the link to this old version:

Drivers and Downloads

Neither of these two versions (there are only two versions available) have XP down as compatible. Both have Vista down as compatible only. It is therefore a slight risk installing them onto XP. I would imagine (but I CANNOT guarantee this) that the worst that would happen would the program would crash or you would get an error message. However, the risk is there. It is solely your choice whether you do this. I am sorry, but I do not have an XP installation to test this on. It might just work, and I would probably try this myself, without recommending this to anyone, simply because I know I could probably fix whatever goes wrong.

It is your choice,

Richard

Sorry I meant Dell says their's are not compatible with XP. I meant to say XP, not Vista.

Well niemiro, not saying your wrong but the delldock.com version is saying their's is compatible with XP...so maybe they took the original version and made it XP-compatible? I don't know. I'll see if someone on the Vista forums has XP so they can try it out.

My Computer

Sorry I missed that, and well done on finding it. There are several people with XP, so either ask one of them or give it a try. Good luck!

Richard

well after witnessing what happened today after installing a new set of speakers and cleaning my room I couldn't give a crap less about what would happen after attempting to download a non-compatible program, so I went and tried it.

Turns out it was compatible.

My Computer

Really glad it went well. Usually they do work, if they won't work, they usually just crash, but occasionally something goes terribly wrong.

Yes! I have to resort to the free avatar websites that everyone else uses as I have no skill whatsoever at Photoshop or art!
