Hard Drive Space -

uberised

Good afternoon

i've read a few of the suggestions regarding space saving but am having a really big issue with my hard drive compiled with being slightly computer illiterate

My laptop says it has 110GB, 55GB drive C and 55GB drive E

I have not backed up my pc, so have only used C

I only have 25GB of music and pictures on the laptop, and have only downloaded 500mb of programmes but my C Drive now says it's used up all the C Drive

i search, but cannot find where the 30GB has gone

i regularly delete cookies, temp internet files and have carried out numerous disk cleans and defrags.

i've tried using the command prompt but thevssadmin option isn't available to me even though i am the sole admin for the laptop

now i have purchased an additional 500gb portable harddrive. i copied over the 25GB of music and pics but to my horror i now discover that the portable hd says it's used 60GB, so the same things happening to the new drive.

I really need a step by step guide into solving this.

at first i thought i'd just use the portable storage as a pit stop while i restored the laptop to factory settings, but according to the available space, whatever i've transferred over is now more than what was originally on the laptop

can anyone help me please????

Hi there

i've done this but it tells me there are no items found that satisfy the query.

this would indicate my pc isn't using the 15%??

Check the size of the actual folders where you keep your music and pics. See if those folders are also reporting a larger size than they should be.

I have encountered this type of problem before, it might mean that a program you use is storing extra data on your C drive without your knowledge. Check the size of each folder in the root C directory. When you find the one that reports a bloated size, go into that folder and check the size of all its subfolders. Continue this process until you locate the files that are taking up so much space, and at that point it should be evident what program put them there, based on what folder they are in.
