Boot and Repair Issue

I just went to start up my laptop and it presents me with the options of starting normally or repairing. Doesn't matter which I pick it always brings me to WinRE.

After running Startup Repair I received the following error codes:

Boot critical file c:\windows\system32\drivers\dzowuho.sys is corrupt.

Repair action: File repair
Result: Failed. Error Code = 0x2
Time taken = 6786ms

Repair action: System files integrity check and repair
Result: Failed Error code = 0x2
Time taken = 633613ms

I went back to the main menu in WinRE ran command prompt and tried to run ChkDsk and scheduled it to run on restart, which it never did. So I go back to WinRE and try to run sfc /scannow and it won't because there is a scan pending and told me to restart and try again, but whenever I restart it just take sme to WinRE.

Just looked up the difference in the two - probably should have done that before - and ran sfc /scannow instead of ChkDsk...I am an idiot.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

I do, but I can't do the upgrade and I have files I need to keep so a clean install isn't an option right now. I'm going to get a external hard drive, copy all my files over and then do a clean install.

I was going to recommend a repair install:

But a clean install will determine whether it is a hardware or a software problem, so if the clean install fails, then you may have to consider a clean install.

Tom

To add to what Tom982 said, yes, clean install is def. the way to go to know for sure; but, in the meantime, you can run Dx tools like SeaGate SeaTools for Windows.

If you end up needing a clean install, I can help gather your files that are not Windows OS oriented. I.E. if you download a trial of Lavalys Everest, go into the Report Wizard, and export your results as .txt (plain text) format, I can get what I need from there.

I of course recommend that you carefully comb-over the report and delete any sensitive or vulnerability-type information, like serial numbers or whatever.

I've been working on drivers all day for previous customers (backing-up.) It would be a challenge to find them for you, plus I honestly love doing it!

Let me know!
