Solved PL-2301 driver for USB-Serial Bridge ... AT LAST!!

Hi,

I have been trying for a number of years to find a Vista driver for pl-2301 serial bridge. This bridge was used on some hubs, such as the old Videk DU1320 UH500/UH510 docking stations, and some other docking stations and serial bridges up to usb 1.1 and possibly some others up to usb 2.0.
I came across this old archived thread on this forum. As I have just found a solution to the serial bridge problem, I thought I would post it up here for the benefit of anyone else who may still be seeking a Vista driver. http://www.vistax64.com/vista-hardware-devices/167034-pl-2301-usb-usb-bridge-controller.html

This issue has been finally resolved (in my case anyway!).

The odd thing is I could not find the driver on the Prolific site, but I found it on a 3rd party driver site, with a link back to Prolific for the actual download.

Okay here is the solution (there may be others, but this is what worked for me):

Go to the following site: Prolific Technology PL-2301 Driver 1.6.4.2 Driver for Windows 9X/ME/NT/2K/XP/2003/Vista/XP X64/2008 Free Download - Softpedia
Click on the Mirror Site link & download the zip file. It will be called "_IO Cable_PL-2301_Drivers - Generic_Windows_wd_pl2301_v1642.zip".
Extract this file to a new folder, open the folder, click on Setup.
This will install PC-Linq on your PC.
Next go to Control Panel, System, Device Manager. Find the serial bridge icon (it will have an exclamation mark beside it saying it is not installed). Double click on this. Click on Drivers, then click on Update Driver. Click on the option to install the driver yourself. Browse to the folder containing the driver file. (This is the folder containing the extracted files from the zip file that you just downloaded). Click search for driver. The driver will install automatically from this folder.

Hey presto. It works. Well it worked for me anyway. :)
