I am on a Sony Laptop w/ Vista printing to Dell 2130cn and recieve this printer error "PDL Request 016-720 Data Violation"

Does anyone have a solution to this? I am unable to print from the web or pdf. I can print docs.

I just had a tech here for an hour and he had no idea. The printer is fine - I am able to use other computers to print. He did MS updates and reinstalled printer. There were no solutions by Google search. Has anyone else had this problem and how to fix.

Also, I do have a HP C7280 and it just prints blank pages from the internet with no error messge.

Thanks - Katy

Not having the problem myself, I looked at the article and it tells you what to do to get up and running. That arrow key is the enter key. Did you try that?

Hi 243kath,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

If the above doesn't work, try bypassing the print spooler and printing directly to the printer. It's not as efficient, but sometimes this will solve the problem. Although it varies somewhat by printer, this is typically done by going to Start / Control Panel / Printers. Select the printer and right click on it and click Properties. Go to the Advanced Tab. There will probably be an option to spool print jobs or send them directly to the printer and it will most likely be set on spooling jobs. Change this to print directly to printer and see if that helps.

As far as PDF files go, often times an Adobe PDF file may cause errors with PCL drivers. They often work best with PS (PostScript) drivers (but those are not available for this printer model). If you are trying to print an Adobe document, try the following: go to File > Print...Click the Advanced button. Put a check mark in Print as Image. Try printing the document that way and see if it works, helps, and is still as clear as you want it to be.

==========================================================

If that doesn't work, try updating and/or re-installing the Dell print driver: Drivers and Downloads even if Device manager says it's OK and it's the same version that you already have - it's possible it is slightly corrupted - not enough to show up as a problem or prevent most printer functions, but enough to cause these special problems. In any event, doing so cannot hurt even if it doesn't resolve the problem (but then again, it may do the trick). At this point, it's worth a try.

Also download and install the appropriate printer firmware: Drivers and Downloads.

Finally, download and install the printer software for this Dell printer: Drivers and Downloads.

Then test the printer and see if the situation has improved (or gotten worse). If the problem persists, check out the user manual for your printer to see if it contains anything that may help identify and resolve the problem: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/PRN2130CN/en/ug/index.htm. Especially look for settings on the printer itself (as opposed to on the computer) that may help the situation if reconfigured (but remember what they were so you can return them back to the original settings if changes don't work and/or make things worse).

I hope this helps. If not, post back and we'll do more research into the problem. For the time being, let's put the other printer problem on the back-burner until we've resolved this one.

Good luck!

Hi, I had a similar problem on Windows 7 with a DELL 1320c printer.

I succeed in printing setting the following option:

Devices and printers | Printer properties | Advanced tab.

You should set the option to "print directly to the printer" instead of using the "Spool print documents..." option.

Good luck.

Regards.

Hi jgonzalez,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Thank you for posting a potential solution to the problem. Did you happen to read my prior post before you proposed this? I said:

"If the above doesn't work, try bypassing the print spooler and printing directly to the printer. It's not as efficient, but sometimes this will solve the problem. While offering new suggestions or options is always welcome and encouraged, submitting only the same suggestion that was already provided in practically the same level of detail (and a week earlier with no response since then) does not assist the OP with the problem.

Thank you again for posting and please continue to do so, but please try to provide new information, additional options, new or different links to sources that might help, or anything different than what has already been said. That's how we combine efforts to provide different alternatives and more choices and have a better chance of finding and proposing a solution. Although I do agree with what you said (obviously, since I'd said it in so many words myself), when posting you need to consider what has already been recommended and suggest something different if you have something different to offer.

And again, welcome to Vista Forums!

Thank you and good luck!

I had this same issue, so, if it is of any help, check your printer cable and length. My mistake was to extend the printer cable with a shielded cable extender. When I removed the sheilded cable extender, problem solved, was able to update the printer bios and also print Adobe Docs, which was the original problem. if you can do a test print ok, print word docs but not Adobe and you get the above error, then it may be related to your printer cable length. Cheers!
