    Help please!

So I have a Gateway DX4720, for a while we tried to install Win XP (BsoD error) then we got our hands on a Vista Home Premium 64 bit, which is what the computer came with it's self.

Now the install is asking for drivers at the beginning of the install? I have no idea why, anyways the Gateway site does provide what I'm assuming is the right driver (SATA AHCI Driver?) and it detects it in the install, but says that the driver in it's self will not work.

Soo what's up? What am I doing wrong here?

Folllow intstall procedure, you will not be asked for drivers
    Clean Install From Upgrade Vista
Clean Install with a Full Version of Vista

Gave you the information for both types of install. I did not know which one you were using.

How did you go about Formatting this HDD when attempting to Install Xp?

This can sometimes delete some Drivers for Computer (Especially if it was an OEM)

    Many Thanks,
    Josh

None of those "Install procedures" are anywhere close to how the install went for us. It never asked for a key, only for CD/DVD Device Driver's. We never get a chance to enter a key or anything.

The machine it's self is not running a OS of any type, it was running vista then apparently after trying to update crashed and has not worked since.

I don't actually remember, I think when it came time to edit partitions we just deleted it because with XP we were having troubles getting it all setup. But the type of OS does not seem to matter what does matter are these stupid SATA drives, why is everything so difficult with SATA drives?

Normal installs do not go the way that you mentioned. Follow the information in this tutorial and the one that I sent you in my first post and you will be ok
This is good for Vista, too

Alright well, apparently nothing is normal with this machine.

Now whenever I try to boot from CD/DVD or even do anything without a CD the screen goes black and stays black. Nothing happens, I don't understand at all. I have never had anything like this happen before. This is probably the most frustrating thing I have dealt with in my life.

If it's not one thing, it's another! I'm ready to drag this PC behind my truck till there is nothing left.

This is just an educated guess, I can not find the manual to your motherboard.
Look into your bios to see if the AHCI/RAID option has been enabled. Try to deselect the raid option (unless you want to set up a raid array).

I've looked before for this so called "AHCI/RAID" option but have not ever found it.

Coffee fixes so many angry issues, anyways yes I don't really see any type of ACHI/RAID option, I've been reading for a while about this.
