Help did a clean reinstall now Network adapter wont show!

Hi I just recently had to clean the hard drive do to a virus that wiped out my friends computer. So I did a clean install and then tried to download the drivers but the cd just opened it up to a weird page where it had a drop down window on the left and then you click like drivers or install and of course it was a 32bit and then you can go to the top and hit that as well but no where to install it. I mean it is crazy!

I know the Network adapter was working before I did the clean install because we were able to get the computer to work enough to use the internet.

My friend has a Dell Vostro 400 Mini Tower with Vista Home Basic windows.

Can anyone help me with this????

Oh I hope there is a resolve.:(

Thanks

Okay this may sound funny, but how do I download them all? It seems like you have to do them one at a time. Which driver should I download for the Network adapter?

Thanks

My Computer

I cant do it for you. Use section 4 from the link that I gave you, information is needed. Insert required information and all drivers will be shown. They should give the type of driver, too; pick network

I do have another question, "the visual shows up like it needs to be fixed or something." I am wondering which drive that is, and if, I too need to download that drive. Any ideas?

My Computer

That sounds like a graphics driver. You should go to the website of the graphics card manufacturer and download the most current.
You may want to use Speccy to find out a lot of information about your computer

Okay now I keep getting this thing that comes up with Norton about high performance disc usage what the heck does that mean? I think windows has that issue but do you know what that means?

My Computer

Yes, it means one or more of your software is using more than its fair share of resources. Go to the bottom task bar, right click>start task manager>Look at the process tab. The look at CPU and memory
click on the top of each column. The high users will be on top. You can see what is taking all of your resources.
If the low numbers are at the top of the column , click again so high are on top
Be sure to click show process from all users.

Okay when I see her I will see if I can do that. I did that on my personal laptop and I was not sure except I hit something and the high ones finally went on the top. How do you get rid of what uses all the resources or do you?

My Computer

We have to see what it is. It may be normal usage and necessary.

Do you know the make and model of the network adapter? Also when you go into Control Panel/Device Manager. Do you see any hardware which you computer doesn't know?
If you don't know which network adapter you have then look up the specs for your computer. Maybe this can help? http://arf.berkeley.edu/webfm_send/195
If you know the type and model then type into google or dell website to find the driver. I am not sure if the drivers install automatically if not then go to control panel and find device manager. Go to one your computer doesn't know and right click. Go to proproties and select up date driver. Then the wizard should start. Select "find on my computer" Then find the driver on your computer. (I suggest putting it on your desktop since it will save you looking all over for it.) I hope this helps

Can you give us a screen shot? Then maybe we can see what has the high usage and if it is normal.
