Can't Install ATI Drivers

Hi guys. This is my system which I built purely for evaluating Vista64.

Vista64 Home Premium.
Asrock ALIVENF6G-DVI Skt AM2 Nvidia NF6100-430
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (2GHz) Socket AM2
2GB DDR2 800MHz PC2-6400
ATI Radeon X800 GT All In Wonder PCI-E
Hitachi Deskstar T7k250 HDT722520DLA380 200GB SATAII
LG GSA-H42NSBB 18x DVD±RW/RAM DL
Kingston DataTravellerII ReadyBoost.

The OS installed like a charm and all the components were identified by Vista. First I installed with the onboard graphics then added the X800 AIW and Vista installed drivers for it.

I then had the latest catalyst & drivers for it on a flash drive but they refuse to install. I get the first few install menus but then nothing else. No messages etc. When I check the driver in Device Manager it is still showing the Vista one dated 2006.

The card works ok no problems there but I would like to latest driver to reduce possible problems as much as possible plus I want to increase the chance of using it in Media Centre.

I also tried installing the 32bit version but with the same result and even gone as far as disabling the signed driver checking. I have tried the catalyst and just the drivers but nothing installs.

Any pointers as to why they won't install? Apart from that the system is working fine. Thanks.

At what part does the Installer stop working?
Does it extract all the files(setup) in "C:\ATI\Support" folder ?

Thanks for the replies.

When I click on the .exe (I am following what I did with XP) it starts the usual installation routine and you see the progress bar etc then it disappears and that's it. Nothing else.

I can see an installation manager but no sign of the actual software installing.

I will check the RM when I get home.

(As an aside I have seen people having the same problem with Nvidia drivers even with 32bit)

Hi Ginger Tom

I have noticed you are using a Hitachi Deskstar 200 GB SATA HDD Model HDT722520DLA380. I am actually looking for a drive of that Model and wonder if you would consider selling it.

If you are interested please reply , if not please also reply so that I don't bother you about this matter again.

I am sorry I don't have an answer to your query but would really appreciate it if you would consider my request.

There are a few other details I will need to know about the disk, and I can email them to you should you be interested.

Kind Regards

Columbus
