Any idea, where I can find this setting in Windows 7 Ultimate 64?

Is there any utility or program that can tell whether your system is using 64bit programs?
I ask because I just installed Nitro PDR Pro 6 x64 and it installed it in the x85 Programs Directory. There's no way I can even tell if a true 64 bit program is actually being utilized in my 64 bit OS. I know I'm being anal but with all the talk of 64 bit vs 32 bit, I started getting curious. Seems that all the big box stores sell computers mostly with 64 bit Windows installed but a great majority of the programs are 32 bit (I know they don't make many).

My computer froze during the restart process of a recent update
(KB971512) forcing me to manually restart it and now loads very slowly.
It runs fine except for whenever it need to load (example: Left 4 Dead 2
take about 10 minutes to load a level, but then runs fine besides the
occasional sputter when it loads during play).

Other things: whenever I start Windows, it comes up with "Windows
update: Configuring 3/3 0%" but then moves onto the login screen. I also
tried running Windows update again (I thought maybe it would catch it's
own error or something) but I get error 80070002, which I already did
their prescribed fix for only to still get the same error. I cannot
uninstall this update from the installed updates list. Also, I'm on
Vista 64 bit.

I think that's about it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Edit: Oh wow. Sorry about all the typos in the title.
I am unable to attach a photo to e-mail from Windows Explorer in Vista.
I use MS Outlook as my default mail.

For example, with a photo, I right-click, select "Send to....Email
Recipient", select size, slect "Attach", it goes through "attaching"
the files but then nothing happens. A mail window does not open.

I have set all my defaults to Outlook yet still nothing happens and not
quite sure what to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was disappointed that the Stocks gadget was not included on the final
release version of Windows 7. After a Google search I ended up copying the
gadget from the RC DVD. The gadget now installs but says 'Cannot connect to
service'. Other gadgets such as the Currency and Weather ones which must
connect somehow work.

How do I enable the connection, alternatively would a copy of the Stocks
gadget from Vista work?

And if someone moved it, how would you be able to find it?

You are responsible for your own posts.

For starters, take the advice given by Dave-UK.

There is some software available to read dump files. It might be
novice-friendly (one can hope - not many experts in that area!)

Here's one:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html

It might provide a clue to the problem *if* it created a dump file. Mostly,
in my attempts to read dumps (and back in the old days it wasn't easy), I
mostly just kind of identified the name of the offending file, because I am
not an expert in reading Windows dumps.

One more thing: I'd guess that ntfs.sys is the driver for the file system,
which might imply that you have a corrupt file system. Perhaps it would be
good to boot to a safe-mode command prompt and run chkdsk from there.

BTW, I have a program which creates the same kind of shut-down blue screen.
It doesn't seem to leave a dump file behind, so the above tool didn't help
me. I sent a report to the vendor of the bad software, but I had to use a
camera to get a screen dump, perhaps since the problem causes a hard halt
:-)

Quote:

> Anyways, I have a Gateway Laptop (NV52), Windows Vista Home Premium
> 64-bit, my antivirus is Webroot Spy Sweeper. I suffered a Blue Screen a
> few weeks ago. After restarting, I figured out the problem, a type of
> file I downloaded (.flv). I deleted it and got a blue screen before I
> could empty the Recycle Bin. So to Safe Mode I went. Deleted the Recycle
> Bin by accident (Seriously, why is there an option to do so?) So the
> file stayed, I couldn't run in normal mode because it would BSOD on me.
> After hours of BSOD's, Safe Mode running, attempting to get the Bin back
> in Safe Mode, running Last Known Good Configuration, I got it working.
> However, it seems the problem wasn't that file.
>
> My laptop now Blue Screens every single time I delete something. By
> delete, I mean every sense of the word. I delete a file, Blue Screen. I
> delete a favorite off an internet browser, Blue Screen. I open Microsoft
> Word and it recovers a file I don't want, I have to keep it or
> else...Blue Screen. It's now Blue Screening everytime it updates. I shut
> it down, it updates, I turn it back it on, it configures the updates,
> and then it blue screens between the welcome screen and desktop. It
> still runs in Safe Mode. But sometimes it takes me hours just to get it
> running normal mode. My guess is that updates delete an old file or
> previous update to be replaced with the new update?
>
> The Blue Screen consists of:

I have an HP laptop running Vista Home Premium. I wanted to temporarily
disable the microphone and I checked "do not use this device" in the
microphone properties. Now I no longer have a microphone and can no longer
find it in the list of devices. When I try to add hardware I'm asked to
insert a CD. My computer didn't come with a CD, but it does have the
restore partition/drive. How can I get my microphone back? I hope this is
enough information and would appreciate any help you can give me.

Right-click on that Recording tab (where you disabled it) and choose 'Show
disabled devices'
You can go into Control Panel in Win7 and change the time out for booting to
the default OS to just a few seconds, so that you have time to hit the F8
key if needed on boot-up.
With Win7 as the default OS it does not matter what you do to the
partition/drive that has Vista on it. Win7 will always see itself on the D
drive. Most programs that have been installed will look for Windows on the D
drive so do not change the drive letters.
It has been many years since an OS had to be installed on the "C" drive.
>>>> Hi,
>>>>
>>>> The PC runs a very small, low transaction volume sql express database.
>>>> The PC is housed often in warehouse locations and lives a pretty hard
>>>> life.
>>>>
>>>> The failure rate on these devices are often related to the hard disk,
>>>> with heat and dust the main killer.
>>>>
>>>> The idea is to keep the PC and our application running on a typical
>>>> internal hard disk, but just move the database file off to a flash
>>>> drive. Performance is not a big deal on this, and the volume of data we
>>>> write or read is very small. (maybe 100 write/reads a day)
>>>>
>>>> So we already know that we can have an SQL database on a flash drive,
>>>> which performs well. So for further to improve the situation it would
>>>> be great if we could have the flash drive in some sort of software
>>>> raid, so that if the flash drive has an issue we have a back up.
>>>>
>>>> We have designed the application so that if the PC fails, you can just
>>>> swap it out, so thats covered.. now its just making sure the data is
>>>> safe, and that we can take the flash drive to another machine and get
>>>> the application up and running quickly.
>>>>
>>>>>> Hi,
>>>>>>
>>>>>> I want to have two flash drives working in like a raid mirror.
>>>>>>
>>>>>> I can plug in one of the usb flash drives and get say a new E:\, but
>>>>>> of course if I plug in the second one I get a f:\
>>>>>>
>>>>>> Is there a way to have windows vista (or 7 I guess) configured so
>>>>>> that the two flash drives are just the E:\ and they are working in a
>>>>>> raid mirror config via software ??
>>>>>>
>>>>>> Thanks
>>>>>
>>>>> While there may be third party software out there that will create a
>>>>> software raid setup for flash drives in a mirrored configuration you
>>>>> are talking about USB speed and that isn't great and because the data
>>>>> must be written twice it probably will slow down the computer anytime
>>>>> a write to the raid is made.
>>>>>
>>>>> Vista, at least to my knowledge, can not do what you want. Don't know
>>>>> about Win 7.
>>>>>
>>>>> Now, for my own curiosity, why would you want to do something like
>>>>> this? If it is for data backup you do realize that if you write to one
>>>>> drive the other will be changed also and a data error introduced to
>>>>> one will also be introduced to the other and you would defeat the
>>>>> purpose of a backup. There are many other ways to do effective
>>>>> automatic backups but this is really a poor way. If for another
>>>>> purpose I would really like to know why.
>>>>
>>>
>>> Thanks for explaining. Interesting thought. Fault tolerance for data
>>> is important. One suggestion is possibly you could place one of the new
>>> solid state hard drives in the computer. No spinning disk and as long
>>> as the power supply and other fans work heat is not normally an issue.
>>> Because no heat produced from the hard drive the fans are much more
>>> efficient. Sounds like the processor would be just loafing along even
>>> with the SQL database running.

>>
>> And a second thought. Install a SATA RAID adapter card in the computer
>> and put two of the new SATA solid state hard drives in a mirrored
>> configuration. Even better than my first thought.

>

There is the possibility of replacing the internal drive of the POS to a
solid state drive. If the unit has a current SATA drive the replacement
would be relatively easy. SATA drives are fairly plentiful and getting a
larger capacity is easy. If IDE (ATA) the only problem there would be the
problem of finding an IDE solid state drive. IDE is a dying standard and
there are few larger drives available for them but they can be found.

If these POS systems are ever networked you could put the SQL database on
the server, create your backups there.

It shows as disabled in my services.

WHICH free trial software? Or is that a secret? Was it recommended to you
by a trusted friend? Or did you stumble across it on the Web? Or did you
respond to a link in a SPAM message? Can you revisit the site where you
found it and investigate it further?

Perhaps someone here will recognize it and know its secrets.

Often, when we download "free" software from the Internet, we get more than
we bargained for. :>( Usually, viruses and other malware get onto our
computers because WE INVITE them. We don't "practice safe hex"!

Not all freeware is bad, of course, and I don't mean to tar it all with one
brush. Some of the best software I have was free from dedicated and
generous programmers. But if you don't even tell us the name, then we have
to be suspicious.

Hi,

I have an application with which I can connect to an Mobile Data Device
via RAS connection. I create an DUN and use RAS calls to establish an
internet connection using my Mobile Data Device.

I have developed the application using VC++ 2005 on Vista.

One of our customers (customers of the firm for which I work for) have
reported an "Black Screen" on returning from hibernate mode and because
of this black screen, he is not able to log-on. The environment is Vista
Enterprise SP1 on Dell Latitude Tablet PC.

The work around is that the user has to log-in in "Safe Mode", delete
"Rasphone.pbk" (which my application created while making connection)
and then he is able to log-in.

I happened to have a look at the Rasphone.pbk that was "possibly"
causing this issue but found nothing unusual or no corruption in it.
This behaviour is inconsistant.

Have you guys faced similar issues where-in you observed an "Black
Screen" on returning from hibernate/sleep/restart on Vista Enterprise
SP1 and which goes away on deleting the Rasphonebook.pbk (after logging
onto Safe Mode).

Unfortunately, the customer has not shipped any RAS Logs to share with
you guys.

Thanks & Regards

Well, Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center
gives a window with a list of networks, and in each entry is a link to View
status.

Click that link and click Details on the resulting panel.

I have no idea if any of those details is what you want, since I only have
one router here, so I see nothing relevant...
just vanished and it doesn't recreate or work at all :S
> Hello Guillermo,
>
> If your lucky the folder may still be in the Recycle Bin, and you can
> just restore it.
>
> If not then restarting the computer a couple of time should restore the
> folder for you by default. If not, then you can use the tutotial below
> to restore it.
>
> http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/14...ng-folder.html
>
> Hope this helps,
