I'm doing some certification work and the .Net framework 2.0 configuration tool is mentioned in the textbook, so I want to download and install it so I can use it in the future. My system has Vista Home Premium, with Visual Studio 2008 (.Net framework 3.5). I can't seem to find the tool anywhere on my system so I'm thinking I may need to find where it currently is on my system now and install it or turn it on if it is there or download it if it isn't and then install it or turn it on. I would appreciate any help in either locating it on my existing system, or finding where I can download it from.

need some help with memory

Hello everyone, I have been pulling my hair out trying to resolve my issue, and I failed, so here i come looking for some help from those smarter than me.

I have windows Vista Home preimum 32 bit. Know i screwed up, I admiot it, by letting my security suite expire, causing a hacker to find a way into my system. and a good job he did.

now this is a brand new Toshiba laptop, it once had factory restore on a seperate partition but i had to delete it because the hacker compromised it's files.

So here is what I got now, once i found a hacker had compromised my system, i began formatting the hd, erasing it, and then reinstall the operating system. every time i got finished with the installation, it was just l;ike it was before, slow and corrupt. this is what led me to deleting the partition that had the system recovery installed on it.

now I am in Memory by running the MEM at the command prompt, it appears there is all kind of strange files installed here, might also be corrupt. my question is this, how do you uninstall these items from your Memory. I found loadhigh to put them up there but how do you get them out.

I also thought it might be the config.sys or the autoexec.bat but vista don't use these anymore. any help would be appreciated, getting ready to upgrade to windows 7 and need to get this memory issue resolved

thanks

Hi everyone.

Hi everyone.

I have this huge problem and was searching good ole google for help and ran into this board and thought you guys could maybe help me. Here is my problem.

OS. Vista Home Premium 32bit SP2.
Dell XPS 420. Quad core Q9300 2.50ghz
4gb ram(don't know the make, sorry)
standard dell 24" lcd moniter
standard dell keyboard
Microsoft Sidewinder mouse.
750G Hdd, Radeon HD 3600 256mb.

This problem started today. And it seems like it started after I did a update via Spyware Doctor(PcTools) when the update was done it made Spyware Doctor crash then I kept getting an error that said something about cannot unpack. Well after that when I left my computer idle for a good 20,30,40 minutes I would come back to use it and my mouse would work but when I would go to open chrome or any program for that matter the computer would lock up. keyboard lights and all. I could keep clicking around until the display would eventually go black and then I would have to manually shut down(hold the power button) I even did a restore 5 days back thinking that might help but nothing. I am still getting the same problem. Does anyone know what this might be? has anyone ran into this same problem?

I would like to thank anyone in advance for helping someone with 1 post.
I usually try and say hello to everyone before I barge in somewhere and start asking for help but I am desperate!! I have to keep hard shutting down my comp and I know this is not good for my HDD!!!

-Josh.

I have just purchased a new hard drive with Vista / Windows 7.

I am a full time journalist and becasue I am so familiar with MS Office Word 2003 I had it loaded on my new drive.

My trouble is after I save a Word file I alaways back it up on my external hard drive for saftey sake.

Whenever I attempt to do this now, however, I always get the dialogue box "This is a read only file".

How do I get rid of this annoying, frustrating problem.

I simply want to back up a word document on an external drive ... so why won't it let me do it. And why does it stipulate that it is a "Read only file" when I never saved it originally as such???????????????????

Thank you so much.

I was wondering if someone could help me. I can't figure out how to make my color scheme stay in any particular setting. IE. I use WMP classic and it (I think) is not compatible with Windows Aero color scheme, so it changes automatically from Aero to Basic, then back to Aero when WMPC is closed.

That is not the problem, my problem is that I would like to just put the scheme back to Window Vista Basic, thus avoiding the need to change back and forth all the time. Everytime I reboot the scheme comes back as Aero.

This seems so simple, just select desired scheme, apply then once I logout or reboot those settings should save.

They do not.

It is not that big of a deal, but it is driving me nuts not knowing how to do such a simple thing.

Any suggestions, or links would be appreciated.

I have an Acer AX1200 with Vista Home Premium OCEact OS. I have an AT#CLS=? COMMOND NOT SUPPORTED error. I contacted Acer and they never heard of it. I bought a new USLogistics external modem and installed the driver and hooked up the modem via USB cable, and I have the exact same error on the new modem. So I guess this is a Vista problem. How do I get the modem to go back to default settings? I have done 1 restore and 2 recoverys and nothing works. From what I found on the internet, the AT#CLS=? is for the selection of either data, fax or voice. I have been fighting this problem for over 5 months. I have thrown money at this for tech support that did no good and than a new modem. Any help would be greatly appreceiated.

Thank you,
I just saw a guy with 7 rep points and he had only 2 posts (him asking about a problem he has and responding to it, I dont understand how that is possible or how the rep system works properly - i have read the reputation system in FAQ and it says it is determined by the admin) even if a moderator could explain the system to me in more detail would be greatly appreciated

evening all,
aha! you say, vista does search within files automagically! not in my expirience. :)

the files that need to be searched, are excel 2007 files, so far so good. Held on a massive network share broken down into departments and access premissions given out as relevant. Not so good.

Vista won't index network drives. now, while it will look for names, it won't look within files for anything related to the search. This i assume is because it has no index on those files held on the network share.

WindowsXP didn't seem to care and would search within files it knew about anyway.

while i approve of not indexing network resources, why is it unable to search within the files it does find?
Both Coppernic and GoogleDesktop have prooven to be equally horrific if let loose in a datacentre.

any ideas on how to search within networked, nonindexed files?

Many thanks,

Hi.

Recently, one of my hard drives crashed. This drive had over 22,000 mp3s on it.

I was able to recover the mp3s with data recovery software.

Before the drive crash, all my mp3 song files were individually named and organized into folders by Artist and Album.

The recovery software was not able to recover the names of the files, and instead of keeping them organized by artist and album, all 22,000+ mp3s were recovered into one folder. They are now named Recoverd_mp3_file(1), Recoverd_mp3_file(2), etc.

Do you know of any software that can automatically rename these mp3s and group them into folders by artist and album?

It will be impossible for me to do it all manually.

Thank you for your help.

When I first got my new Sony Vaio model VGN-NS30E, I installed Comodo Security Suite. It seemed like a good idea at the time. I wasn't happy with it and tried to uninstall it. I now run AVG free edition, and Windows firewall.
I also now use Firefox browser, and am happy with my set up. I don't really like internet explorer, so don't use it. When I installed Comodo, the HopSurf Toolbar was bundled with it. I did my homework after the event, and found, ( online ) issues with HopSurf

Comodo removed Ask/IAC SafeSurf Toolbar by replacing it with HopSurf/IAC/Ask Toolbar - Donna's SecurityFlash

I have uninstalled Comodo/HopSurf, and when do a search cannot find it, but when I open ie, I get this.

On opening ie, it is impossible to close using the x
I have to open Task Manager ( Ctrl Alt Delete ) even then it puts up a fight.
Comodo/HopSurf is clearly still there, how can I get rid of it?

I do not like having toolbars, or anything else, forced on me. I presume there was an option not to accept the toolbar, on installation, but i never saw it, and wasn't savvy enough.
Your thoughts welcome.

Cheers Mike

I have a friends Toshiba Satelite A205 running Vista Home Premium 32bit. It froze up on him several times so he ran his Vista Recovery discs to perform a repair. It would not repair the problem and gave him this information:

Problem Signatures:

01: AutoFailOver
02: 6.0.6.001.18000.6.0.6001.18000

He went ahead and used the Recovery disc to reinstall Vista (leaving partitions in tact).

It would not boot after install performed. Froze in the Windows Progress Bar Screen.

He then ran the Recovery Disc again, this time formatting the Hard Drive and erasing all partitions.

The system then brought up 'Loading Files Screen' but instead of proceeding to the WIndows Vista Setup Screen next it instead freezes on a black screen with bold message at the top which said something like FILES LOADING PLEASE WAIT. (Sorry, we forgot to right that one down).

So that's where we are with it. You turn on the laptop and it still freezes in the Windows Progress Bar Screen.

We took it to a computer repair shop and ran a diagnostic to see if there was a hardware issue to which it came back negative.

I am not super experienced with computers but I have reinstalled XP numerous times. This is my first go at Vista so I am at a loss.

When the OS starts it says press ctrl-alt-del or the security button, there is no security button. Also when I press ctrl and alt and del on the "on screen keyboard" nothing happens. Is there a reg hack to automatically bring up the login screen?

On XP I used to get a ' save as ' box, and it was simple.

Now I get this
When I double click on this I get

Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong? Where is the good old XP save as function, on Vista? It shouldn't be this difficult. It's incredibly frustrating, to have £500 worth of computer, and have to resort to my old xp Fujitsu ( on it's last legs ) to download my files.
Can anyone help a frustrated Mikky?

I have a Toshiba satellite A135-S2346. It's always worked fine. One day it when I plugged my ipod charger into it, it froze. Now the laptop wont start at all it has a 1 in 3 chance of starting, if it does. It freezes at the Toshiba logo, and makes a static, popping noise from the speakers.

Anything I can do?

Or began to figure the issue out?

This started happening about a week ago, my computer will be fine for a few hours or even all day, then it will just start freezing for about 9-10 seconds. After the freeze everything is normal for about 5 minutes, then it repeats. During this, if I do anything with Explorer, Explorer crashes. It just goes solid white and says "not responding". If I try to restart it hangs during the "shutting down" phase and I have to hit the reset button my my PC case.

I have tried closing all programs, removing unnecessary items from Startup, running multiple virus and malware scans, defragmenting several times. Nothing seems to stop this from happening. I have also looked at the Task Manager information during the freezes. I don't see any spikes in memory or CPU usage. I have also run Core Temp and don't see anything abnormal with the CPU temperature. Just now I thought I'd do a system restore, but for some reason my only restore point listed is from yesterday.

Anyone have any ideas?

My specs: 2.4GHZ 64bit Quad Core, 6GB RAM, Vista Ultimate x64, GeForce 8800 GTS
