I used another video with music in the audio section to see if it would work and now I cannot delete it and my video will not play. It keeps not responding and crashing. I went onto the control panel and came up with this info about the issue:
I'm not sure if that helps or not. I have no idea what to do and I don't want to use another program to try and start again. I have divx condecs but I don't know if they are causing the problem. I have a pretty good graphics card ect. As you can see I'm not that good with laptops so any simple help would be greatly appreciated thanks :)

Running Vista Ultimate w/ SP2 running the Vista TV Media Pack 2008

Hey
I am here seeking help. I have googled regarding whether the VMC can be re-installed (hoping to fix things) but from what I've read that option doesnt' exist.

Background: A few months ago, Media Center began having (hiccups & freezes and occassionally would crash)... From time to time ever since install it has done this, but never so frequently and NOW repeatable. I believe this started after downloading & installing Windows updates, some months back. These things have a way of creeping up on me & so at this point I don't think System restore is an option.
Other issues I just fixed a Windows Search Protocal stopped working error.

Here's what I experience: Generally Media Center starts and will record & let me watch programs, however It crashes repeatedly throughout. Some times it crashes itself & "searching for a solution" ...send more data etc, restarting happens. Some times the crashes will happen back to back to back.
IF I am watching a program or watching tv, or something I'm simultaneously recording if I go into the upcoming shows about 50% of the time if I hit the record button to add that show to an upcoming record que, the system freezes. Most of the time when it does this it will crash & restart. Other times it will sit there for a LONG time? Sometimes I'm forced to Ctrl-Alt-Del to end the program.

In the past I didn't have any problem going into the settings and editing channel information such as enabling channels, renumbering, or setting up the channel information...but NOW. This will freeze up for example if I click to enable or disable a channel and then click save....the system freezes. Again sometimes after a LONG wait it'll recover other times I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL.
It's made managing channels an impossible tast.

I can access my event logs and post anything requested here; I can't find any ANSWERS from that information (myself) only notes of what is crashing, I've all along used the built in reporting & check for solutions in control panel YET NO SUGGESTIONS OR HELP!!!

I have gone through the setup process of VMC and this did complete but it froze a few times, but the end result was no change!!! Within a few moments of running MC it crashed, gather & sent additional information, & restarted Media Center.

I have run sfc /scannow 3 times over the last few months including just the other day... It finds NO PROBLEMS:confused:
I've run the Microsoft One live care (think that's what it's called) and it found about 68 registry entries, so I let it do it's clean up & it deleted 60 of them & found errors with 8 of them. IDK if the errors have anything to do with my MC problems. But no difference after the "cleaning" and that other than some temporary files was all that One live care reported.

I'd like not to have to start over (the last time I imaged the system was just after installation about 11 months ago.

My Original DVD is SP1 so IDK if there will be an issue with a "Repair" installation & I need a refresher on whether that will damage my data (i know best always to back up in case but I'm just wondering It been too long since I did one & even then it was with XP). I dont' even know if there are more repair options in Vista... or just a repair installation like XP. OR if there are some better, things to try before hand.
