So I have a Compaq Presario V6000 Notebook PC
I've posted a problem on this site before and I figured it out on my own. Now all of a sudden, what I used to do, doesn't work anymore.
Whenever my wireless stopped working I would shut my computer down. I'd do a primary hard drive test. It would fix my wireless almost guaranteed. I tried it earlier today and it didn't work.
Now I got this screen telling me I need the Vista CD to resolve a problem with one of the drivers.
I don't have the Vista CD. My laptop came with the program not the CD.
I checked with my manufacture website and I even downloaded an HP Support Assistant.
It says everything is up to date.
Help?

Hey there everyone,
I am the manager of my network at my house and i have set up my router with an encryption key i can remember. My mom just got a new laptop and we can not connect to it because i FORGOT THE KEY! My computer is wired directly to the router. I went to my IP address and wouldnt you know it, i forgot the login info!
I can reset the router from the router itself, but it took me a while to set it up. Is there any way i can get around my login since i am directly connected?

Thanks a ton guys,

I recently bought a new laptop (Gateway MD2614U), which has an Athros AR5B91 wireless adapter. From all indications, it is supposed to have a/b/g/n(draft) capabilities. I initially had a g router and upgraded to an n (Trendnet 652brp) to get greater range (>30') over what my g router would deliver. To my surprise, the distance and speed were exactly the same with the new router. After troubleshooting with TrendNet and trying different settings, they concluded that my wireless adapter would handle only g speed (it would not even connect when router mode was set to "n only"). TrendNet further stated that the vast majority of laptops come with g wireless to save money and suggested that I buy a n USB adapter to solve my speed/distance issues. I have no problem with this but have to wonder how gateway and others can get away with advertising n capability and failing to deliver on it.

Any advise or enlightenment is much appreciated...confused, abused and feeling used!

I'm sharing the root of a hard drive(no OS, just files) in Vista using the "Advanced Sharing" option in the drive Properties>Sharing menu(the regular Sharing button is grayed out), where I added "All Users" to the permissions(total control) list. I can access the folders in it just from another computer fine save for half of the subfolders in one of the main folders(which is around 100gb in case that matters). Its like if the permission rules weren't applied to each individual subfolder, because if I check the ones that I can't access, it indeed looks like the settings were not applied to all of them. I've tried removing and unsharing the whole drive and starting again and it still doesn't work. Any ideas? Is there a way to reset all of the sharing settings?

Hi, I'm currently running a home LAN at home (with a linksys wrt54gl router with dd-wrt) with 1 Vista PC and a laptop running XP. I can open the shared folders on my PC from my laptop and vice-versa. I recently set up a VPN(with my router, setting it as the PPTP server) and I can connect to my home LAN from school, I can browse the web through my home LAN and I can ping my Vista PC but I can no longer open the shared files on the Vista PC. If I try to open the shortcuts to the shared folders in My Network Connections from my laptop(same one I use at home) I get an error message saying I don't have permissions. My shared folders in the Vista PC have permissions given to "All Users" which is how I managed to get the shared folders visible from my XP laptop. Do I need to add another permission rule for the shared folder on the Vista PC? Might this have something to do with the internal LAN IP of my laptop? Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi, I post my story here; hopefully it could be to some help for someone. I have used my home network for years, never had problems, at the moment I have only two machines connected, my notebook with Vista Business and one desktop running XP Pro SP3. For some months ago I suddenly noticed that XP disappeared from the Vista network map after more or less an hour, XP could still see Vista, but Vista could no longer see XP. However, Vista could reach XP by typing \\"name" in the address field in Windows Explorer and I could do file transfers in this way, so there was communication between the two machines, but XP could not be seen in the network map in Vista in the normal way, and other programs did not find XP. The only way to restore the network map was to restart the Vista machine, but just to lose XP again after an hour. Later it did not help restarting Vista, the network map only showed the Vista itself, nothing more, and then after a while I noticed some new event errors: BROWSER EventID 8021, BROWSER EventID 8032. I know there may appear browser service conflicts in a home network, but still a bit strange with only two machines, but anyway, I disabled one of the browser services (XP). But this did not help at all, the only positive result was that the browser event errors stopped in Vista. I spent very much time googling, and found many people having more or less the same symptoms and the same event errors, but I did not find the solution, very frustrating. Then I noticed new event errors: Dhcp-Client EventID 1000, Dhcp-Client EventID 1003, and I started suspecting my broadband wireless router. I had received a new router (Inteno) from my ISP in September, exactly when my problems started, but the router was the last thing I suspected. I contacted my ISP, told them my story, they sent me another new router (Thomson), I connected it, enabled the browser service on XP, and voila! - Now Vista and XP could see each other in the Vista home network map with no problems. So the very problem all this time was obviously created by the router I received in September, don't ask me why, I don't know routers very well, it was configurated by my ISP. However, I have to inform, I finally did find out that Microsoft has a hotfix for XP exactly for this problem, Network Map Does Not Display Computers Running Windows XP, one hotfix for XP up to SP2 and another one for XP SP3. I have just downloaded the hotfix, but I changed to the new router before I reached to install the hotfix, but up to now my home network map is working perfectly well without this hotfix! I have it ready for install in case of more problems, but up to now, everything is OK. Finally I can sit down and relax. This story just for information. :D

Hi there, this is my first post, hoping to get some help on this issue.

My boss and I are trying to configure a LAN connection in the office, I have a Vista Basic OS, and we also have 2 computers with Vista Home Premium and XP Pro. I've tried to follow several tutorials on the net with no success, and the main problem is that my computer (the one with Vista Home Basic) can connect to the other Vista Home Premium just fine, but they can't connect to mine.

I configured the computers as follows:

-Changed the PC Name and work group to WORKGROUP

-On Network and Sharing Center, I set the network to Private, enabled Network Discovery, File sharing, printer sharing and disabled the use of password.

-Created a folder, and shared with everyone on this group

When trying to connect to other computers from my computer, it works fine, but the other computers, when trying to connect to my computer have this error: Error Code: 0x80070035 - The network path was not found

Is there a problem with Vista Home Basic than can't allow other computers to connect to it? Or is there another configuration i'm missing on the first place?

I would very much appreciate your help on this issue. Thanks

I am trying to share the WiFi through the laptop so that i dont need to purchase a Wifi card for the desktop. The desktop cannot access the net.
Both computers have been set to the same workgroup and i have also tried manually assigning IPv4 addresses and DNS's to no success.

Hi,

I have multiple machines on a local network, each running Windows Vista Ultimate x64, with Norton Internet Security installed. For simplicity's sake, let's say two of these computers are 'A' and 'B'. 'A' can remote desktop just fine into 'B' using 'B's name, however 'B' has to use the IP address of 'A' in order to remote desktop into 'A'. So while I'm able to remote desktop into my machines, I'm miffed that I can't use the name of one machine to remote desktop into it. Note that both machines have the same firewall software, so I'm not sure what may be the cause. Any ideas?
thanks,

Modem Internet Connection speed

On my older Windows ME, I was able to see the connecton speed of the modem while I was connected to the internet. Saw amount of send and received bytes, and the speed of the modem itself. All I had to do was to click the icon with the two computer screens which was active when connected to the internet. However I am at a loss about how to do that with Vista. Athough a similar two computer screen icon appears in the lower right bar of my display, when I access it, instead of a pop-up that show me the connection information, I get no information about what the modem connection speed is, or the number of bytes received and sent.
Can anyone tell me just how I can access the similar modem connection speed information with Vista?

Greetings,

I have been searching for some time for an answer for this issue but i have not yet been able to find a fix.

PROBLEM: I cannot add a TCP/IP Printer attached to my network.

System Information:
Gateway 6860 Laptop
Windows Vista Home Premium x64
1.83 GhZ Core Duo2
4 GB Ram

THINGS I HAVE DONE:

1) Tried intalling via add new printer -> network printer -> Printer not listed -> Add TCP/IP Printer -> typed in printer ip ->

I get the following:

"Error Loading TCP MIB Library" - "Cannot Load Wizard pages for Standard TCP/IP Port"

2) Checked the REGISTRY ENTRY according to some of the other solutions that i have read and everthing is in place:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Print\Monitor\

Add key
Standard TCP/IP Port
Add String Value; value name=Driver; value data=tcpmon.dll

under Standard TCP/IP Port
Add Key
Ports
Add three Dwords in Ports
LprAckTimeout value data= 180
StatusUpdateEnabled value data= 1
StatusUpdateInterval value data= 10

stop and start spooler

3)Checked on the files that are used for TCP/IP Ports and they are all there:

\windows\system32

tcpmon.dll
tcpmib.dll
tcpmonui.dll

and i don't have any of the files that have been references in the %systemroot% folder that would cause conflicts:

"This behavior may occur if a third-party version of the Wsnmp32.dll, Ntprint.dll, Tcpmib.dll, Mgmtapi.dll, or Snmpapi.dll file has been copied to the %SystemRoot% folder."

4) Installed the same network printer on three other machines in my office (Windows Vista Home Premium, MacOS X Leapord & Windows 7 Home) So i know that the printer is accessible, in fact i can connect to the printers UI via typing the ip address in my browser...

5) i have performed "in cmd" scannow sfc/ command and that didn't fix anything either as some other suggestions have implied.

Im kind of lost for words on what to do next without re-intalling vista... any suggestions?

-Thanks
Chris
