C&C The first Decade Generals Zero Hour problem Vista x64

well im having a unique problem. I can install the game just fine. I can even get red alert 1/2, regular C&C, Tiberian sun, and renegade to run...however generals and zero hour give me problems.

I have both games patched to the latest version.

The problem is whenever i click on zero hour it asks me to insert the correct cdrom and start the program over again. Obviously the correct cd is in there or i wouldnt be trying to launch it from the game launcher. So i tried just lauching it from the games directory. Same problem.

I am using Vista x64, i have all the windows updates. I have ran it in compatiblity mode, i have also ran it in admin mode. I dont know whats causing this. Any ideas?

Found the solution:

Get the games working on Windows Vista:

Firstly take ownership of the TFD main folder too. To do this right click on "Command & Conquer The First Decade" folder > Properties > Security > Advanced > Owner > Edit > Select your username > Tick Replace Owner box > Apply.
C&C1 (or TD/C&C95/C&C Gold): See VK's patch above, and Scorpio's DLL file for LAN play

For TS/FS, RA2/Yuri's, Renegade & Generals/Zero Hour:
Navigate to the folder where TFD is installed and find the specific games folder.
Do the following for all .exe's (applications) in the folder:
Goto Compatibility Tab, uncheck "run this program in compatibility mode for"
and also check the box that says run as admin.

I couldn't help but see you had an issue with the "C&C The First Decade" boxset, and so with me having a problem with it as well (not exactly the same) I thought I'd post it here.

Now, I'm not a "Tech-Wiz" on PC, or, rather, smart at computering to know what something complex is with another thing... However, in hope that you guys, the people on the world wide web (:D) can help me. I have no problems with "C&C", "C&C: Red Alert", "C&C Generals + Zero Hour", or "C&C: Renegade"... Annoyingly, I have an issue with my two favourite one's... "C&C: Tiberium Sun" and "C&C: Red Alert + Yuri's Revenge".
When I click on "Tiberium Sun", it says, "One or more DLL files were missing or damaged. Please reinstall." I re-installed, and this was brand new with no marks what-so-ever, so I figured.. maybe it's clashing with Vista...though, I have no idea.
With "Red Alert 2 + Yuri's Revenge", I try to open the application via any method, and I get a box popping up saying, "***FATAL*** STring Manager failed to initilaized properly".

Is there anyone out there who could help me with this? If yo could, that would be the best thing EVER!! :D:D Thx for reading, and thank-you even more if yo can find a cure to my long headaches via a PC not working.

I see post on Vista Ultimate 64bit
Will it also work on home premium 64

It should. The difference between Ultimate and home (both being 64 bit that is) is that Ultimate has features that premium doesn't.

Doesn't work right with 32 bit Vista, either. I also can't load several of the games included in the First Decade package.

Hey everyone, I am having a similar problem. I have quite a good computer, not the dogs ********, but still, specs listed below:

AMD Athalon 64 3500+
Geforce 8600 GT
2GB RAM
Vista: Home Premium x32 bit
Stuff like that...

Well, what happens is, it all installs, and everythings cool, but then, when I start either the normal generals or zero hour, it comes up with the thing in the middle of the screen, and the CD drive goes crazy, starts whirring really fast, an obvious sign that it's trying to start up. Anyhoo, it stays like that for like 15-20 minutes, and then it says it can't find the CD :S what the fudge.

If anyone has any ideas of why this is happening, and if it is related to Vista, because if it is, I'll just reboot back to XP.

Thanks very much for your help.

I had no issues running anything but Yuri's revenge and one other from the Decade pack myself on Vista 32bit. Check your installation files again, and re-install.

read the second post it should work. A quicker to do it is just to put run as admin for the first decade launcher and then select your game running as admin gets rid of the no cd and fatal error for the games and also zero hour will load up faster.
