Now ive been running for vista for a while, and gaming is good on vista (after installing many patches just to stop game crashes)

what would be better for my gaming system

32bit or 64bit vista

currently i run vista ultimate x64

people say 64 is slower, but cant be by that much at all can it?

ive just got world in conflict which should run semi good but i get 8 frames per second during a nuclear strike which sucks, average of 23-30

my specs are:

Having run VistaU32 for an extended period and then moving to VistaU64 I'd say that 32bit is the safe bet for now, if you want the largest possible percentage of you legacy games to run. As far as what people "say" about Vista, I've long since given up on entertaining the thoughts of people who don't even have Vista loaded, which is where the vast majority of negative comments come from.

yeah i got sick of argueing with people that havnt even had vista on their systems at all or for less then a week

hmmm i might switch over, will be a pain redownloading everything as 32bit though

I haven`t used the 32bit version. I have had no problems with the 64bit version and programs written for the 64bit version will run faster and be able to handle larger numbers in the vairiables. Why is the 64bit version seen as being slower then the 32bit?

Codex - I went the other way: From 32 to 64. FWIW: I'm not the type to count frames, since that seems overly anal retentive to me. (Not to mention highly dependent on what other tasks you may or may not happen to have running at the time.) Having said that, with NWN2/Mask, Bioshock, The Witcher, and all the rest of the games on my system, I have noticed no difference in performance between 32 and 64 bit.

Given my experience with the relative performance of the two versions of Vista, rather than change your OS, I'd like to strongly recommend upgrading your GPU.

i have no idea tbh

just some people on pressf1 have said that before, lol.

I was merely pointing out that changing Operating systems isn't going to buy you much in the way of performance. I've used both 32 and 64 bit Vista on the same hardware, and in my experience they perform equally. The (minor in this case) expense and *great* hassle reformatting, getting everything running again, and reinstalling all of your software which you have to do when changing operating systems isn't worth the effort when it buys you little or nothing. Whereas upgrading your GPU will solve the performance issue you are having. Sincere apologies for not imparting that in a more straightforward manner...

Also, a 512 MB 8800GT runs about from $270 to $320 at newegg and, depending on the benchmark, is 98% of a stock GTX. Something to think about going forward, anyhow.
