Games folder doesn't update with information about newly installed games.

I was under the impression Vista was supposed to automatically download game information from allgame.com and display the game's information when you click on the thumbnail? My Vista hasn't done that since I installed BF2 and I haven't been able to manually add information using VGEE because I accidentally deleted the BF2 information and haven't been able to get another games information to show up since!

It was my understanding that only games with the "Games for Windows" tag will show up in the games folder like you are talking about. I could be wrong tho.

I've installed some more games and it's not updating with the box art or the information. I've attached a screen shot. Suggestions? :sarc:

Yer, some do, some dont. Dont ask me which because I have no idea. I only have Crysis and BF2142 and both updated OK, however BF2142 does not give any statistics like Crysis as its not a Games for Windows title. Only the art for BF2142 updated.

I installed toca race driver 3,which isnt supported for vista. That updated fine. (it works apart from no antialiasing:() ArmA however, which isnt supported atall just didn't come up. Its weird. The "Games" folder is a great thing... when it works!!!

It appears the box covers will load on certain games only regardless of age. I have Star Trek Armada (2000) which the cover loaded just fine. Star Trek Legacy (2007) that never has loaded the cover. However make sure that you have the option to download game folder information checked (under Games Explorer/options) otherwise it won't look for the cover/info.

Yep, not all games appear there, and age does not count. There are some of the new games too that do not appear. I do not really miss this, as this was not present for the last 14 years since I play :D okok... if there is something like that, It should work.

All I can tell, that there are games you cannot lunch, if they are not there. Example would be Gears of War, for which you need some Vista update, and can only be launched from that folder, by clicking on it...

Btw, I never use it for anything else, only GOW.

Cheers,

tend to find the manual approach is easier, goto

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games or whatever you have called your self installed games directory

find a shortcut and then copy and paste it into the "games" area that holds all the games :)

Are you using a firewall program other then what came with Vista? It's possible that it's blocking the games folder from getting information over the internet.

As you can see from my picture, Oblivion does download box art, even Master of Orion 2 has box art and that games old.

Dues Ex doesn't but I've concluded that it's because it's the European release with the 1.2 patch pre-installed. I came to that conclusion because Heroes of Might and Magic V vanished for 3 days after I installed patches.

As for all those casual games, I just dragged their shortcut into the folder, you don't get any info on them except the last time you played them.

And don't believe the product version number, only one of my games shows the correct one.
