Re: Why PC games ?

Other people don't want their PCs stuffed by some games. And other games could not be played in PC unless the emulator recognizes it.

Re: Why PC games ?

Mods! Mods! I got a wii and I don't play it one bit. I work for a gaming company and I got access to all kind of console games, but I have no interest.

I play tons of FPS and RTS and nothing beats a mouse when playing those type of games. Just as I wouldn't play sport games using keyboards. I been playing tons of BF2 mods for eons and I don't think console games have such a long play life. So, I spend less on software, and more on making existing game look pretty.

You also got to see PC hardwares does not have to be bought all at once. Add an extra gig here, upgrade video card here then change cpu/motherboard...the cost is spread over time.

Re: Why PC games ?

I guess it is up to what you want to do with what you are going to buy:
I am interested in all types of electronics, and have the PC, PS2, Wii and PS3 at home.
If you want to play games, I guess PC is the way to go.
If you want to have fun with the family, Wii is the way to go. I got two kids (one is a year old and the other one is 3 years old) at home, and FPS and stuff like that are not possible to play at home because of the kids. So the fun you have with them (of course the one year old doesn't play nothing but even he laughs a lot when he watches us playing tennis on Wii) when playing Wii sports is something you won't get anywhere else.
For the graphics, I guess nothing comes close to the brilliance of PS3 on a HDTV. I don't know how good XBOX 360 is, so I leave that out. But you should play Grand Turismo 5 Prologue on a HDTV, it really is fun.
All a matter of budget, if you can, buy a Wii + PS3 + PC, if you can't, just stick with the PC I would say.

Re: Why PC games ?

PC's and consoles have quite a bit in common but are executed differently. Neither is better or worse. If you're up for PC, you pay alot more than you would for a console but it opens the door to actually doing ALOT more stuff on it (besides games) that isn't as flexible on consoles. Not to mention that there are emulators for so many systems now that you can play dozens of consoles-worth of games on your PC. Plus, the PC is more powerful (due to it's ability to be upgraded). In this respect, PC is kinda superior.

....and nothing can beat a keyboard/mouse.

But then you have consoles...which are (relatively) inexpensive and there's a crap load of games to play through. Granted, there are some titles on PC that wouldn't make it to consoles (most of them are RPG's and RTS's) and for obvious reasons. Then again, there are plenty of games that make it from console to PC and visa versa; which must mean that those games are good. And at least with consoles (except for current gen consoles) there was no hassle of updating or installing fixes or installing the game itself....just put the disc/cartridge in and play! Simple, good, clean fun.

This matter really depends on the amount of money you are willing to spend, and your expectations of what games you wish to play (as well as extra functionality from what you're buying i.e. multimedia functionality, internet browsing, homebrew stuff etc).

Personally, i've always prefered PC.

Re: Why PC games ?

Yeah PCs do have a larger area of games as it has been stated above and are currently better than all the consols in the graphics area (Next gen consols are gonna be insane) Also i belive that Computer multiplayer is better than consols as on comp u can talk using keyboard or use a mic. also Xbox's online play isnt free and i think PS3 online is free however i could be completly wrong on that i dont follow PS3.

So it depends on what kind of games u like as well as multiplayer or non and weather u care about graphics as well for example CRYSIS is huge in the graphics area and because of the power it needs to run it cant be played on either XBOX 360 or PS3 with nice Graphics.

Re: Why PC games ?

For me, I just like pc games. Add to the fact that I am a programmer and systems admin at work. Consoles will ALWAYS become outdated. And I can do multiple things on a pc at one time, not just play games.

I'm also one of those "old guys" and HATE console controllers.
