| vista home premium 64 | I canīt install Age of Empire 3 on my sons laptop Richards PC: Asus notebook G50V Intel R Core (TM)2 Duo CPU T5750 @ 2,00 GHz 4 GB ram, 64-bit operating system NVIDIA Geforce 9700m GT Vista Home Premium 64 When we try to install from the AE3 Icon, it stops 30 seconds into installation process saying that the game is not installed and that it will now exit. We will appreciate supporting input. He got the laptop yesterday. It is brand new and weīre both used to Macs so we have no clue of what to do. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 MAK, OpenSolaris 5, Gentoo 2008.1.... | Re: I canīt install Age of Empire 3 on my sons laptop Hi, richi rich, and welcome to the forums. When you say you installed it from the icon, could you be more specific as to how you were doing this, and if *in particular* you are receiving an elevation message asking to elevate privileges for a piece of software? If you are and are accepting it, then your next step may be to do a custom install and either make a new directory on C:\ (C:\Games sounds nice) or else force it to install to C:\Program Files (it will probably default to C:\Program Files(X86), which might mess with the games internal structure). |

| vista home premium 64 | Re: I canīt install Age of Empire 3 on my sons laptop Thanks for your quick response. I start up the pc, inserts the dvd and then I go to the start menu. I find the AE3 icon in the driver folder and double clicks on the icon. The first AE3 image pops up and asks me to click "install" After clicking install I'm being asked to allow the unidentified. After "allowing" that, It starts up the "Install shield Wizzard" and after that it refuses to install. Does that explanation help you? Could there be some kind of program or driver I need to be able to play games? They told me at Best Buy that I was all set to go. Richard |

| Vista Ultimate x64 MAK, OpenSolaris 5, Gentoo 2008.1.... | Re: I canīt install Age of Empire 3 on my sons laptop Yup that is what I wanted to hear. SO, you are getting the UAC prompt for installation, - right after that (or perhaps even before - I don't have the game itself so I cannot do screen shots to show you) you should have an option, probably right after accepting the EULA (same as Apple SLAs) there should be an option for default installation versus custom installation, or else it will simply ask you where to install it, listing C:\Program Files...pires 3\ or something like that - if there is a browse button there, or edit, click it, and then change Program Files (X86) to Program Files (leaving all of the rest of the line the exact same). Alternately, you can change it to a complete different directory, such as C:\Games\AOE 3\ or whatever (I tend to *not* install Games in the Program Files & Program Files (x86) folders because of their restricted (read limited write) access for programs - a good thing for security, but a bad thing for older games. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 MAK, OpenSolaris 5, Gentoo 2008.1.... | Re: I canīt install Age of Empire 3 on my sons laptop I am not sure that I follow you. I suspect that you are thinking in terms of a Mac again, such as using decompressor for .DMG files to open them / mount them to the desktop, and what not.... if that *is* what you're thinking, then you don't do that in Vista. However, when you insert a DVD into the drive it *should* automatically start a program that will either give you a menu to install the game and perhaps a couple of other options, or else will automatically start the installation process itself. |
