This only happens in a few maps? Could counter strike be the issue?

Re: BSOD - Hard Reboot - Counter Strike

I'm not really familiar with Radeon cards, but from reading this forum I've learned there are a few driver problems with the 4870 (not sure what version drivers, 8.8 maybe?), so maybe it's a problem with them.

Well going to an earlier driver version will elimnate possible causes, so it can be well worth a try.

Hi jedi88 & welcome to Vista forums ...

you could try catalyst 8.6 or 8.7 also...
what PSU do you have...?? the 4870x2 is a notorious power drain!!

please enter your system specs via the userCP so others can use it for future reference.

Re: BSOD - Hard Reboot - Counter Strike

Hi,

I updated my specs. I have a 800w PSU. Its weird that the game only crashes on some versions of the game and not some other levels? Could be the game? Just reinstalled, as I used my old XP game backup/restore in steam. Let me test to see if anything changes. Reluctant to go back a version as those versions hardly support this card.

Re: BSOD - Hard Reboot - Counter Strike

Guys,

This issue has been happening all over the place. But only with the Sapphire flavour, I just swapped to the ASUS , seems to work better.

Re: BSOD - Hard Reboot - Counter Strike

One month ago I replaced my sound blaster x-fi extremegamer with my onboard sound and have had no problems what so ever since. I am playing probably the buggiest game out there right now on max settings (Age of Conan) and have not had a single crash, bsod, memory leak, nothing! Prior to sound switch, I was forced to reformat twice because bsod left a big black square in the middle of my desk top the first time and a big black square in lower left the second (Both happened while in game - AOC). I'm convinced it was the x-fi, can't think what else it could be, if you have some other card I feel for you, it was a nightmare of problems for 3 weeks!

Vista64prem
Asus M3A
AMD 6400+
realtek onboard
4 gig
Saphire 4870 x2
westinghouse 24" monitor (best i ever owned by the way)
650 power supply

jedi88, whats your sound card?
