you can't you have to have a graphics card and a game that uses DX 10.1

No only 10 I don't think they started making 10.1 cards yet.

but guys my friend has 6200 TC graphic card .he installed vista .When he checked
DX version it showed Dx 10 (although it cant use it since it has no shader model 4)
Atleast it should install

direct x 10.1 wont ask for graphic card to enable it.The matter is that its not there in vista sp1.
In my old rig i have DX 10.1 installed when i have nvidia 5200 graphic card

It does install. I'm not 100% sure, it either only says 10.1 when you have a 10.1 card enabled (Any ATI users confirm this?), or it's such a trivial update to DX10, that it doesn't change what version it shows.

If you want to check DX10.1 is installed, then go to your SysWOW64 folder in Windows, d3d10_1.dll and d3d10_1core.dll. If you have these, then DX10.1 is installed.

And there's no Nvidia card available that can run DX10.1, so don't worry too much about it. Only ATI 3000 series and 4000 series supports it.

but why is it not showing me dx 10.1
when i am running dxdiag in run

i have a ati 3870 card and it's only showing me dr10 aswell.
i checked and the 2 files are there.
