Vista 64-bit Out of Memory Error??? Please help!

Hi there,

I have Vista Home Premium 64-bit and recently Crysis has been crashing on me with an "out of memory" error.

I have 4GB of DDR2 Mushkin RAM, with a Core2Quad processor and ATI 4870 video card.

I also notice that as soon as Vista boots up and I watch the system resources, all of my memory gets eaten up until there is 0 free bytes of memory. Vista still seems responsive though, and if I wait long enough, it goes back to about 2GB to 2.5GB free.

I also noticed that the virtual memory was set on "no page file" for some reason (I think you need atleast 6 to 8GB in order to do that) so I turned everything back onto "Let Windows Automatically Manage Virtual Memory" option.

Does anyone know what this could be? This seems really strange as I thought 4GB was more then enough memory for Vista.

Thanks,
Joey

Crysis actually ran fine the first time I played it through, but now after I play for awhile I get this error. This also might be why Unreal Tournament crashes for me too.

Hello Joey.

You may want to have a look at the programs / apps that start automatically when you boot up.

In the start menu, type msconfig in the Start/Search box, then click startup in the box that opens.

Keep us informed!

I took a good look at the startup programs and everything seems normal.

It could be Folder Guard or the ASUS utlities that run in the background that control the fans etc...but I don't think so.

Looking at the Windows task manager under performance shows around 0-50megs free of memory.

This isn't normal right? I have 4 gigs too!

Free up memory with things like Auslogics Disk Defrag and CCleaner. Get a nice Anti-Virus and scan for things. Try HiJackThis and send your logs to some pros (or this forum )

If this happened like yesterday or sometime, try a System Restore.

Hello again.

I'm sorry I wasn't more clear.
I meant to say; maybe you have too much trying to start all at once at boot up.
Have a look at mine to see what I mean.
