Call of Duty 4 Problem

I have a new HP Touchscreen with 4 megs of ram, dual core, and windows vista 64. I load call of duty and it loads but will not run and says their is a missing dll file. from direct x. Obviously Windows vista 64 has direct x 10, and COD4 runs from Direct x 9. When I go to install direct x 9 it says that I cannot install due to another application of direct x running. HELP?

Re: Call of Duty 4 Problem

I did install the latest update and it gave me the same error. Unable to install due to direct X already running.

Re: Call of Duty 4 Problem

You will have to search on the COD disc for that dll file and put it in the main folder of COD.

Re: Call of Duty 4 Problem

Yes.. there are a few posts about this if you google it...I had it happen as well... I cant really remember what I did to solve it.. but... Make sure you install in an administrator account, make sure you AV is off when you install...install the Patch as well.. ( I think its like 4.16???) I was getting the error even though the DLL was in the main folder....Try right clicking the game icon and running as administrator....I still have to do that with a few games and RIVA tuner.

By the way.. if you have updated DX..it should be backwards compatible so I dont think it should be a problem...install the patch before you play the game... right after installing the game.
