Star Wars Battlefront II :: Need help with installation!

We have had Star Wars Battlefront II for quite a while now, and it always worked on our Windows XP. In fact, we recently installed it on an XP comuter, and it works perfectly, even after we started to have the problem with Vista, so it's not a problem with the CD.

So, when I first put in disk 1, it could install every file except for "data2.cab". I tried manually copying all of the files, but the only one that didn't work was "data2.cab". So, I downloaded the first disk :o from the internet, and now it installs beautifully. However, when I put in the second disk, it said:

SWBFII Error.jpg

What is the problem? The error is different than the problem with the first disk, because with the first disk, it said something about "Cyclic redundancy check" and the problem was about it not being able to copy a file.

Try downloading Microsoft Compatibility Administrator:
Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit

After installation select Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit\Application Compatibilty Manager from the Start Menu

The make a new 'database'. right click on it and select Create New\Application Fix. then fill in the details of the game. Point it to you BF2 exe (C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData\BattlefrontII.exe). Then select next. Skip the compatibility modes screen by hitting next. Then select CorrectSoundDeviceID. Then select ok. You will then have to run the game from this MS application, as it is translating the game sound ID to whatever Windows Vista needs.

Um if he can't install it in the first place, that probably won't work. But that's a really weird problem, I've installed and run SWBFII game on my Vista computer for a long time, and it's worked fine. And we have the exact same OS. You're not trying to install it on a different partition are you? Also, make sure you're using an administrator account to install it, run the setup as an administrator just to be sure. I'd try installing it to a different directory (for instance, change the "LucasArts" part of the install directory to something else (but simple) like "LucasArts2" and see if that makes a difference. Cyclic redundancy check sound like a hard drive issue, but I don't really know, it might also apply to CDs. Look at this page How do I fix a cyclic redundancy check error when I try to copy a file? and see if this helps with your original disk.

On the other hand, since you already downloaded the first disc, and you do own a legal copy of the game, you may just consider downloading the rest of the discs as well and using them instead of your original set. I really doubt you'll be able to make a mix of downloaded and owned discs install correctly. But do that at your own risk, of course. I'm sure you're aware of them.

Usually have low HD free space left (<10 GB), often left on overnight. I really push its capabilities.
Also, I just checked lucasarts help, and they basically said "clean you disc and disc drive, and get a new CD if that doesn't work. Here's the page if you actually want to read it, it's no help. LucasArts.com | Yoda's Help Desk You mentioned trying to copy the data2.cab. I don't know how this would help you (since it needs to be extracted) but if you know how to make that work maybe you could just copy it off the downloaded disc.
