Vista - Problem playing games.

I have a problem playing games on my pc.
This only seems to have happened recently.I bought command and conquer red alert 3,installed it and tried to run it.Then I just got a blank screen with nothing happening.Had to reset my computer.I looked on the box and it said it was vista 32bit but i've got a 64bit version so thought it might be because of that.
However,I then tried to play universe at war which i've played before but had the same problem.
I'm running - core 2 quad,4 gig ram,home premium 64bit,ati 3870x2.
I've checked drivers for graphics card and they're up to date.
I also had this problem when I tried to run the media centre to sync with my xbox 360.

Well, it MAY be those games, but I can't guarantee my statement.

Most of the games I've played on my lappy run great (Vista Ultimate x64).

With command and conquer you might have to download the most recent patch. You can do this when you put the disc in and it autoruns there should be an option to update or patch. If you do a search I am sure there was a solution in another post.
