Call of Duty 4 and 5

I've got a rather odd issue I have only seen a couple of people have, but no fixes.

I have been having problems playing both COD4 and CODWAW (5). The game runs fine, but every so often, after I've shut the game down, rebooted, or what have you, the game will not give me video once the maps load for me. Here's what happens (to the best of my ability to explain)

I play a few maps, typically 2-3 before I get tired of it. I shut the game down, and proceed to do something else.
I then load COD up later on, and attempt to join a server.
The map loads 100%, I see "Waiting for Players" at the top, I get a blip of sound, and then my G15 LCD counts off 5 seconds, then my computer screen goes black and I have to hard reset my computer. Edit: When the screen goes back, it acts like there's no video feedback from the videocard. While this would point to an issue with the video specifically - why would deleting the profile fix the issue? Unless maybe there's an issue witht he AA settings or something?

I had originally thought it was my videocard drivers, but I've had 4 different driver versions on this computer to try and fix this issue - to no avail. The only thing that I have found that fixes this issue, is if I delete my entire profile (with exception of my mpdata), and recreate it. That will fix it - usually.

I am unsure what keeps causing my profiles to go corrupt so often. It's gotta be something with the way Vista handles folders/files that I have set, and I just don't know what it is... I have a friend that has Vista 64 as well, and he doesn't seem to have the issue at all with COD4.
