THE best gaming rig?

What components would be used? If you could explain in detail like the mobo, cpu, video cards, etc. This would be all specwise of course.

Re: THE best gaming rig?

Just go to Cyberpower.com

Everything there is a gamer rig. You can add the components you want and talk to tech support via live chat. This is where I got my rig. Works great and I love it.

Phenom X4 9850
650 watt PSU
EVGA 9800GT
8 Gig RAM
MSI SLI mobo
Bunch of case fans.
Vista 64

I plugged it in and pushed all my games to max everything.

Re: THE best gaming rig?

BEST gaming rig I can come up with:

CPU: 2x Intel core 2 Extreme QX9775
MOBO: Asus DSEB-D16/SAS
MEM: 16x Kingston ValueRAM KVR667D2D4F5/8GI
PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W
GPU: 2x EVGA GeForce GTX 295 w/ EVGA Backplate 1792MB
HD: Seagate Cheetah NS.2 ST3600002SS

Or something like that...
(I'm not fully up to date on current state of affairs regarding hardware
so im not sure if all these components are compatible and/or wether
it would be better to go for an Intel i7 solution)

I can however guarantee you that a 2x geforce GTX 295 solution is the BEST gfx solition available to date.

No budget. Watercooled. Either or, nVidia and ATI have their moments. Intel definitely.

Are you sure? The GTX 295 seems to be the lowest end in the GTX series. It has a low core clock. Is this the only one in the GTX series with dual-gpu's?

Re: THE best gaming rig?

Well if no budget:

Core i7 965
12GB Corsair DDR3 1800MHz
2x Nvidia 295s for Quad SLI/3x 4870x2 (if you can do that, not sure)
Asus P6T6 Motherboard
Power and Cooling/Corsair/Thermaltake 1000+W PSU
VelociRaptor 10k RPM HDD 150GB for boot + a few games
A Seagate 500+GB HDD for storage
Water or air cooling your choice
A case you like

That's just pretty much getting the best stuff at the moment.

Ok, So is the Asus one you listed the best? For gaming of course. And as for the 295s is that the only dual-gpu gtx? and why is the core clock a lot slower than the 280 and 285? Thanks for helping out.

Re: THE best gaming rig?

The 295 is the only dual GTX. The specs are lower because they are essentialy two 260's slapped together. You could always run two or three 285's in SLI.

Re: THE best gaming rig?

Don't look at core clocks on graphic card and think a slower clock = a slower card. It's what's inside the core that counts. A 295 GPU is a GTX260, but it has the same amount of shaders as a 280.

A friend of mine has the Asus motherboard I listed, and he's had no problem with it. Runs his i7 and 3x 8800 Ultras fine on it.
