Can a pc game disk obtain a virus

OK- heres the thing. MY friend has given me his sims 2 game for me to install and play on my computer. BUT I am 110% sure that his computer is loaded up with tons of nasty trojans, viruses and more. Could I get some of those viruses if I play the sims 2 on my computer???? Or will I not because commercially pressed disks are only readable? thanks

Not unless he burned the disk.
OEM disks are read only- not writable thus malware off his pc will not be able to infect disc

I would not disable my antivirus for a game, or any other install if it could be helped as that is just asking for trouble. I havent encountered any install (including SP2), that would not run unless I disabled my AV.

If you have the Norton Suite, I would disable everything else but the AV. I gotta agree with rive0108... so far none of the games I have played have given me problems because I have my AV on.

Now, I have heard that the Sims 2 is kinda quirky to play and/or install so, if they recommend (the makers of the game) to DISABLE anything that moves on the background and you are afraid to do so for fear of infection coming in while you are at it, why don't you just unplug your ethernet cable and be done with it. After you Reboot and before getting into the Bios screen, plug it back up and you'll have your Norton and Game working when you get back to the desktop.

any game or application that tells me to disable AV gets trashed, so far not had any hassles :)
