I was looking into it and it seems like that driver has been causing alot of problems on vista and particularly COD and Farcry. I would definitely think that DLL is a possibility for the problem and have you tried running the game in Dx9?

Re: Call of Duty 4 Freezes and pixels go strange

its artifacting and its probably down to your onboard ram , its either faulty or its getting too hot , you really could do with reseating your heatsink making sure your ram chips are properly covered and your heatsink is making good contact

you need to remove the hs , clean off all the paste and reseat with new paste preferably arctic silver.

the issue is 99% heat related

its not a good idea if you dont know what your doing though it can be fiddly

Re: Call of Duty 4 Freezes and pixels go strange

the 180.48 drivers all the way up to 181.22 were affected with this problem. i figured out what was causing it because when i would no physx software installed while SLI was running, it didnt crash after 10 minutes, (the infamous "system tried to reset the display driver and failed to recover from timeout) and no artifact freezing. since it was an early driver build for Physx, they later fixed it in the 182.06+ drivers. oh and by the way, the latest WHQL drivers are 185.85 and the Beta is 186.08.

Sorry, I don't understand how I can fix this issue...

Also archie123, it can't be hardware if it's not happening on XP, right?

Re: Call of Duty 4 Freezes and pixels go strange

I'm having the same issue as you, the only diffirence is that I'm using GTX260 Graphic Card and that I don't get any artifacts. But the Freezes are realy P!ssing me off.

I advise you to go to Activisions Website and mail them about this problem, I did the exact same thing today. Once I get a useful answer from them, I'm letting you know.

Gl!

P.S. I've been having these freezes ever since I bought my PC, and thats about 3months now

Re: Call of Duty 4 Freezes and pixels go strange

I've got this response from Activison but it didn't help for me, after 10 minutes it froze again. Maybe this helps for other people reading this form.
