Cod 5 won't work

Hello, I was playing cod 5 last night when all of a sudden it minimized and said something about superfetch has stopped working. Then windows aero wasn't working so I had to restart and set it again. Anyway, thats not the problem, my problem is that when I try to go into COD multiplayer it just stays at a black screen, and I have to go into Task Manager and end it.

Is there a way to fix this? Because I don't really want to reinstall

Well, reinstalling is always a pain but perhaps the best solution. things you can try instead.

Uninstall your Nvidia Video drivers along with the PhysX drivers. I would uninstall the Monitor drivers as well. Get fresh copies of the drivers unless you got the latest drivers a few days or couple of weeks back. I like to do this in Safe Mode as it seems to clear more instances of the registry this way.

Use the Nvidia Driver sweeper being careful not to uninstall the chipset drivers... if you use Nvidia nForce that is.

Once that is done, reboot and go to the folder where you have your drivers, right click on the executable and "Run as Administrator"

Restart and do the same with the Monitor one... hopefully, that would clear any corruption you may have encountered between the game and the drivers when you ran it last.

I think I would rather reinstall the game than reinstall drivers :P.
But thanks, anyway

Do you, or anyone else have any more suggestions?

And also, If I do end up reinstalling the game, would it save my online character?

Someone said that to fix their superfetch problem, they :

Go to the start button,
select run
type in prefetch
click ok
when the screen comes up with a list
delete all of them

Can I try this?
Or will my whole pc suddenly burst into flames?

Hello evilhugbear,
Delete all the files in that folder, reboot, then go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, and make sure it's running, retry the game.
If your drivers are in need of changing, then you will have to change them.
Try it and post your results, good luck.

When i delete everything, do I also delete the readyboot folder inside of the prefetch folder?

And what do I want to make sure is running?

I would leave the folder, and you need to make sure prefetch is running.

It's in services under superfetch. Make sure it is running.
