Well, title says it all, I can't even run the damn game. Screen flashes to black then back to desktop. I tried patches, cracks, etc. Nothing seems to work. Reinstalled multiple times, configured video.con file. Anyone know a solution or atleast what's wrong? Any help appreciated.

The issue can be the game is not compatible with Vista
So what you can try is
you can try to change the compatibility of the game
Simply right click on the games icon and goto Properties
There will be a tab there "COMPATIBILITY"
Under this tab check that box which says "Run this program in compatibility mode for windows XP"
Then click on apply then OK

Take care and Keep smiling

Have you upgraded to 1.5? BF2 works fine on Vista.

Just found out Vista automatically updated to DirectX 11, could this be the problem, because I don't think my chipset is compatible... I'll try rolling back to 10

It cant be directX 11 because 7 runs dx11 and BF2 runs fine.

I didn't mean Vista was causing the problem, I meant my hardware might not have been compatible with directx 11 (Mainly my graphics).

Didn't really help, it said I had to have refresh rate at 60hz (already have as default), and my graphics have to be able to run at 800x600 resolution (which it can) and that I had to have latest patch...I tried to download patch 1.5 and install it, but in mid install it says I already have a newer version installed...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure my hardware isn't compatible, my Quad Core system isn't listed, neither are any chipsets.

its not your hardware mate , especially not your cpu , its not listed as it didnt exist when BF2 was released it may however be your onboard graphics chip which isnt compatible

as to your mention of DX11 thats wont be an issue either its compatible with ALL cards , even the ones that cant utilise DX11 , DX7,8 and 9 games will still run fine

i had a similar problem. try lowering the resolution to as low as you can go and into windows mode, if it works it is because your monitor is not HDCP enabled.

Hello Madandfrustrate,
How far in to the start up of the game are you getting ?.
Are you getting the "BF2 stopped responding" error message, or is it CTD and thats it ?.
A lot of the problems with this game were sound related, try playing around with the sound on your system.
Disable it to start and see what happens.
Do you have FFDShow on your system ?.
Can you confirm you are patched to the latest patch for the game.
This is not a Vista problem, so you need to start looking at other things.
Go here and see if your system is up to it.

If and when you do get the game to play on that integratd video don't expect too much out of it,

I realize that is for the laptop variant, but the desktop version will run just as badly.

Would be a better idea to get something like this,

Newegg.ca - SAPPHIRE 100295HDMI Radeon HD 4670 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

Low power requirements and will eat that onboard Intel garbage for breakfast. That and save a ton of aggravation with BF2 or any other game you want to play. Here is the full specs of your HP,

Product Specifications HP Pavilion a6648f Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

and it does have a free PCI-E 16x slot, so getting an actual video card isn't a problem, budget not withstanding.
