Steam and Vista x64

Hey all. I've been running into a problem lately running Steam on vista. It seems that whenever I start the steam client it crashes 26% into updating itself with some weird exception. I tried uninstalling steam and then reinstalling steam to see if this solved the problem, but I haven't had much luck so far. Has anyone else been experiencing this issue, and possibly, does anyone know of any work arounds.

Many Thanks,

Aaron

What version of Vista (RC2/RTM) and is this a fresh install of the steam client?

I copied over my steam directory from an old XP installation and just ran the exe. It updated to 26%, the client then restarted, then update a bit more and launched.

I am using Vista Prem 64 bit and had no problems with steam installer. Just downloaded form steampowered.com and ran it - updated itself fine

I ran into this issue a week or two ago. For me, the fix was that the Steam client wants to install into the "C:\Program Files (x86)" directory. I had to change that to the short name of "C:\Progra~2" and after that Steam was able to update itself.

I have Vista 64 and it runs fine on here, I did the full install from upgrade disk (check google on how to) and then installed steam, I play almost every day Day of Defeat and Red Orchestra flawlessly!

Maybe all you guys need to do is install all the drivers correctly and then install steam. I run my vista on a nvRaid0 and no problems here.

The only time I had problems with steam was when I upgraded from xp to Vista but since then I have NO problems at all... I even run BF2 in 1680X1050 with no lag!
