If you know how, update your display drivers.

There should be a button on your keyboard called "Prnt Scrn"
That will take a picture of your screen and put it on your clipboard. From there you will need to open paint and paste it there, and save it as a jpeg.

Alternatively you could use a program called Hypersnap. HyperSnap - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

Yes, there is a possibility of you having a virus, but lets try to rule out software errors first.

Reinstalling an operating system should be a last option, most problems have a solution, it can take a while to find that solution. You shouldn't lose hope so fast.

Depending on your version of windows you have several options to make screen shots. From the Start Search type in SNIPPING TOOL, this is a screen capture tool. If you don’t have that then go to the screen you want to capture and press the PRINT SCREEN button on the keyboard, then go to the START Search and type PAINT, this is windows paint utility, once in PAINT go to edit and paste, the screen will fill up. Then just edit the picture and save.

Check to see if your video drivers are up to date.

You were running the games before you updated?

Do you know when you updated?

If you know the date you can uninstall the update from the Programs and Features then, View installed updates. This is where you can uninstall them, to see if it works. Don’t worry about them, Microsoft Update will be bugging you to reinstall them.

Upgraded the power supply to 600Watt, in order to get the Nvidia 8800 graphics card to run. And added 1GB of memory even through 32 bit Vista will not use it all.
If this happened on a windows update, try system restoring before the update was applied. If that doesn't work, check your video drivers.

Screen Capture on Vista. You have a couple of options depending on your version of Vista, SNIPPING TOOL and PRINT SCREEN button on your keyboard, with the second you will need to open PAINT and EDIT then PASTE, to see your screen shot.
Now onto your problem, Both PC was affected at the same time? What was the commonality? Was it just the updates, which is an easy fix or virus? Also an easy fix. Retrace your steps on the first PC you encountered the problem, did you do the same steps on the Lap Top? Are you running the same software and operating system on both systems?
Virus infection, scan with an antivirus program, I recommend ESET NOD32 www.ESET.com .
If not infected then let’s look at one of the PC’s first. You have some options here as well, you can uninstall the updates one at a time from the Programs and Features, open and look under TASK, VIEW INSTALLED UPDATES, Maximize the window so you can see the dates. Hopefully you know the date this first occurred. And yes there are a lot of updates. You can uninstall one at a time; try your program to see any change. Or option 2, Do a Systems Restore, Choose a restore point right before you lost your system. Its located under Accessories, Systems Tools, and System Restore.
If your 1st PC works right duplicate the process on the other PC.
