I unplugged all USB, it still remained there.

For example, if you plug in a USB flash drive, the letter shows up - then it disappears
when you remove it. In this case it proves its not external of the laptop itself
and / or a strange glitch.

On a side note, anyone find it really annoying that when deleting a shortcut or folder via right click
inside the start menu, it closes itself? XP is not like that, it stays open.

Basically, just like it says above. How do I know what this is for or where/how it was created?

Just follow the "names" in the "device manager"? (sorry, mine is spanish)... you should look for the drive, uninstall it... then for an SCSI driver or so, and uninstall it too... check the names... but, if you uninstall a true hardware of yours... it should be reinstalled later, so no problems in mistaking I think.
