Re: Show us your rig

Download CPU-Z and see what it reads/take a screenshot for us.

Also, for zipped files, WinRAR is what I use...it works rather well. Although I do not have it on this PC and I have been able to unzip files anyways <_<..I wonder why..

Re: Show us your rig

Just read your last post.

Looks like your CPU is already above its stock setting...I wouldn't complain if I were you lol, that just means less work for you to have to do.

I haven't really messed with the NVIDIA control panel, but the easiest way to change things would probably be to go into your BIOS... You can muck around in the NVIDIA control panel and try that if you want though ^^

Re: Show us your rig

Ya I'm not sure why your stuff Is all saying that your AMD 4000+ is at 2.8 but thats cool.. did you buy it used.. or the computer used?? also is it a single Core, or a Dual Core?? like a AMD 64, or a AMD X2 4000+???

as for how easy is it to overclock.. depends on your stuff.. I have a Motherboard thats sort of meant for OC'n stuff.. so the settings in the BIOS are really easy, and it AUTO's a lot of Voltage for me really well, so I don't have to worry about wackin up some settings.

and Xen, as to why I'm at a Higher clock than you, with a Lower FSB speed.. I have the Q6700 with a 10x Multiplier, and your Q6600 only has a 9x multi.. so that one extra allows my CPU to OC easier than yours.. as you loose multipliers as you go up, so me having one more allows for me to OC.. and then be level with you.. so I'll be ahead with my clocks easier.. make sense.. don't worry about it tho.. 3.2 is more than enough. I'm liking the 3.5 a lot tho, the temps are a lil high.. I just moved it down to 3.4 and it doesn't seem right to me.. so I'm going to stay at 3.33 i think.. or maybe stay at 3.5 I liked that.. lol

any other questions just ask

Re: Show us your rig

Where *exactly* did you do your research for overclocking? I know you said Google, but can you list some really good sites where all the information is located at?

Re: Show us your rig

I actually just talked to freinds and others with my same Mobo, and same CPU in a forum I use Daily.. It's a Computing Power website based in Australia.. but the people are very smart, knowledgeable.. and usually freindly, so yes I sometimes am up til after 1 am here in the states in order to talk to them... but ya, it's a cool place. and someone with my same setup taught me some basic things.. like the link below explains.. basically in your BIOS you can adjust the settings pretty easily, and if you pay attention, it tells you before you actually save what you'd changed.. what ur OC will be, or my Mobo does at least..

This has good info, and it also has a little to much info.. you could always go to Google, and type HOW to overclock, or how to overclock a Intel, or for AMP you could say how to overclock a AMD and I'm sure you will get many many responses..

let me kno if I can help explain anything, as I feel I'm gettin it down somewhat well..

BTW I've decided that 3.4 was no good, wasn't acting right.. so went back to 3.5 and it's smooth as a whistle.. so it's here to stay

Cheers!

Re: Show us your rig

Thanks for that specific link - I'll check it out and see if I can find someone with the same mobo / RAM / CPU as me to talk to.

Re: Show us your rig

Oh yeaaaaah gunther xD..

I forgot you had the Q6700 and not the Q6600...that makes much more sense now. I got OC at 3.30GHz today and it went through all of the stress-tests well and preformed great, but I decided to put it back at 3.20GHz because I was more comfortable with it being there.. I don't want to over-do it when it doesn't need to be over-done, ya know? lol. I OC'd my RAM today too..apparently it was running at 5-5-5-18..so I moved it to 4-4-4-12 (what the package SAID the speed was anyway!..). My PC is running quite smoothly now ^^...I couldn't be happier at the moment. Glad to see you got your 3.5GHz nice and smooth...I'd keep it there if its stable.

Re: Show us your rig

ya I'd set your ram to what it came as.. or even set it to Auto in your BIOS settings, ur doing the OC in bios settings right?? I have my RAM set as Unlinked, and the Timings set to Auto.. and it is what they came as.. they suck PNY 667 Crap... tomorro in the mail when I get home from work my 2x2GB G-skill 1066 pc2-8000 ram will be here 4-4-4-12 I'm exited. it even looks cool. haha.

so ya, leave yours on auto, or the way it came stock. you can OC it if you want. but I'd just leave it be.

and ya the extra multiplier makes a lot of difference. thats why I got the Q6700.. well, and cuz I got a steal.. if I told you.. you'd be angry!!

Thats good yours is up and stable there. ya might as well leave it be, doesn't need to be overdone, not at all. these CPU's do great by themselves. and who cares if others have some crazy ****, if your happy with yours the way it is. then leave it that way and be happy!. I'll be happy after i get my RAM.

I haven't ran a Stress test yet at 3.5 I'm going to bed, but I will run OCCT tomorro and see how it goes.

so Xen, why do you have the 780i.. and only PC6400 ram.. it can handle the 1300 right?? cuz mine takes 1066.. just wondering.. I kno it costs alot, for a small gain, so probably not all that important anyways, I'm just curious...

Re: Show us your rig

lol - I have PC8000 RAM and CPU-Z is detecting it as PC6400....

I am going through the site you gave me - OCCT didn't push any temps above 45C so I am pretty safe there - time to overclock my board.

Unfortunately, CPUID has pulled clockgen, and I wonder if it even works with Vista...I'll go looking elsewhere and see if someone (like Softpedia) still has it for download....

Re: Show us your rig

I use the 6400 because I already had 2x2GB of it from my old PC when I did my build....so I got 2x2GB more of the same stuff to add with it because I don't like mixing RAM. I may get faster RAM someday, but I don't see a point in paying the extra cash for something that I really don't need lol....I mean I already have 8GB total, would I honestly see -that- much of a difference? or a difference at all? I doubt it..
