Desktop Folders

I need help understanding how folders work in Vista. I moved my User folder to a 2nd hard drive on my computer. When in Explorer and I view my User folder under Desktop (at the the top) and my User folder in my Data (D) drive, only some of the contents are the same. Is there a way that when I add data to my User folder in my D drive that my Desktop > User Name will see it? I realize only the blue search folders under Desktop > User name copy new data when added in my D drive. (ex: I would like to see all contents of User Name when clicked on in the Start Menu).

Thanks,
Jamie

Hi Jamie,

When I used this method below, all the user folders remained in the Start menu, but everything was actually being stored in the new location. The Start menu was just a shortcut to the new location. Any change to one of them should reflect in the other. Check to see if this is like the method you used. If not, just relocate it back to the defaults and try this one.

See: How to Change a Personal User Folder Location in Vista

Hope it helps you,
Shawn

I used that method exactly and I can access the folders through the start menu. However when I add new folders under my user name those new folders cannot be accessed through the start menu. I created a shortcut to the actual new location of my User Name and all the new subfolders are visible. Any way they can be accessed through the Start Menu?
Thanks!
Jamie
