Re: MAJOR Problem! Help!

Mate, if you read above youd notice i cant actually boot a cd at all. It freezes when i boot the cd, either in the windows loading part, or after it just gives me a black screen.

Cgorny80,

Oops, missed that one.

Have you tried booting from the DVD with another hard drive installed as the master instead of the one with Vista? If you can get it to boot, see if you can install or format the Vista hard drive.

Re: MAJOR Problem! Help!

yea as if the motherboard is messed up. I been in that scenario with XP/WIn2k/98. hardware was bad. either mem/video/motherboard was bad in my past experinces Hopefully that's not the case with you. I'm out of ideas on this one.

Re: MAJOR Problem! Help!

Ok well. This may narrow the field down a bit.

I took out my 2 hard drives and put in my XP one from the other computer. It doesnt want to work at all.
It gives me a blue screen of death for a split second then caeks it.

When i boot with cd it freezes once again. It gets to the vista background with a curser though.
So any ideas now?

I was suggested to remove the bios jumper. What you think about that?

EDIT:

I got this error again

"Disk error
press any key to restart" i do then
"DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"

then gives me the error from the start

Re: MAJOR Problem! Help!

Cgorny80,

At this point, resetting the CMOS and BIOS could only help.

I think this means that the HDD isnt being detected (assuming the HDD you have connected has Vista or other bootable OS installed)

Connect only 1 HDD (the HDD on which Vista is installed)
Connect only 1 Optical Drive

Also try switching the Molex(power connectors) of the HDD and optical drive.

If you have too many drives connected,it may be that the PSU cant handle all the LOAD(which PSU do ya have ?)
Boot with bare minimum hardware as 'rajinisback' said.

Let us know.

If you're getting the "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER", then that means the BIOS cannot locate a boot sector on any of the devices listed under "Boot Priority". This could be caused by any of the following:
  • It's a new hard disk that has not had an OS installed yet
  • If you have more than one hard disk installed, the BIOS Boot Order does n ot specify the one that has the boot sector
  • Malware has fried the boot partition
  • You have corrupt settings in the BIOS for the IDE/SATA controller
  • The hard disk is failing
  • The motherboard is failing
If you can get into the BIOS, there should be near the bottom of the list of options a choice for you to reset to either Failsafe or BIOS Defaults.

If you still cannot boot, try putting your CD/DVD drive first in the boot order, and boot from there. If you cannot boot even from a CD or DVD, then it's a strong possibility that the motherboard be failing or already has.

Try plugging your boot drive into another computer and attempt boot, all the while pressing the F8 key before Windows starts. If you can get into the Boot Option Menu, then you hard disk fine, and you need to look at replacing the motherboard.

Unfortunately, I can't accept your money from PayPal for various reasons, not the least of which is this is supposed to be a free peer-to-peer support group, and that the South African Revenue Services (SARS) would have a hissy fit if they found out.

Re: MAJOR Problem! Help!

sounds to me like overheating trouble.
you may went to check and see if your cpu fan didn't die on you.
freezeing up almost always is heat or memory trouble .
can you get into your bios and look at your cpu fan speed and temps?
hope that helps mike
