I just built a PC and it has been fine since the build, a week. I have a samsung sh-s203b and it was fine but when I loaded NERO and rebooted the drive was no longer recognized in device manger or on "my computer" window.

I tried a system restore no luck.

Specs:
Vista 64 business
AMD AM2 64 x2 2.8
2x SATA 160 HDD
8800 GT xfxforce
8 gigs 800mhz
mobo: MSI kngm3

I also tried disconnecting it and reconnecting it, no luck.

thnks,
TW

How do you have it hooked up? Quite a few motherboards come with more than one SATA controller. My board has the standard Intel controller (ICH7 family) and a Marvell controller. Do you have your hard drives and optical drive on the same controller? If so there shouldn't be any reason Vista doesn't see it. Do you see the drive in your BIOS?

As others have suggested I would remove power and SATA connection from the drive AND motherboard and then reconnect. It's possible the connection is loose on the motherboard.

I just checked the BIOS and it is not there.
THe connections are fine.
It is on the same sata controller in position 3...behind my two western digital SATA hdd...weird how it sees the HDD and not the DVD

If it's not reported as a drive in the BIOS then Vista certainly won't see it. The only thing I can recommend is moving the connection from SATA port 3 to port 4 then recheck in the BIOS. The drive does have a jumper block. Did you move the jumper from the default position? If so, move it back.
