Freezing - HELP!!!

Hey

I recently purchased a new computer. It has been plagued by freezing and crashing ever since i bought it. (just froze) I also have unfrequently had the (just froze) "nvlddmkm display driver has stopped working and has recovered" message. Could that account for the frequent freezing. The thing is that it is not accompanied by a black or blue screen. This freezing usually occurs during IE7 opperations, but also occurs while playing games and fiddling with gadgets.
(just froze) I have 2gb and wondered if this could be the problem - i seem to remeber reading somewhere that when you have 2gb or + it frequently freezes.

here are my specs

Vista Home Premium
AMD Athlong 64 X2 dual core processor 3800+
2.o gb RAm
nVidia GeForce 55(just froze) 5500

Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!

ps. i now the just froze(just froze) business (just froze) sounds phony but i swear it ain't (just froze)

Re: Freezing - HELP!!!

Not only the video driver, but I would identify each hardware piece (through the manufacturers website) and try to see if an updated driver is available.

Make sure you get the proper driver (32 bit vs 64 bit).

Good Luck!

Re: Freezing - HELP!!!

Hi Caduris,
I would strip the PC of everything but the bare essentials. If you have 2 sticks of memory try using just 1 and see if it freezes. If it still freezes swap the memory stick out. If the freezing stops you know it was one of the memory sticks was bad. If the problem persist maybe your motherboard has onboard video and you can use that and take your video card out. Just remember to do one thing at a time. Gotta play process of elimination. Also unplug all DVD/CD drives. Just boot and use the PC with bare essentials.

The "just froze" statement is not unheard of. I have seen it in my lifetime. Bad memory was usually the case back then.
