Vista will not shut down ????

 Hey all, I am new to the forums and have been using Vista for about 5 months (seems like 50 years  ).

Anyway, this may have been answered previously or I may be in the wrong forum and for this, I apologize now.

Here is my problem: Vista Home Premium will not shut down. It just sits there with the circle circling and the words << shutting down >>. It can go on forever if you let it. It also happens when you restart. It wasn't doing this about a week ago and I know I can do a restore.........BUT..........I had a hard drive crash (actually 3>>>thanks Dell) and own a Bible Database Software Program. It contains about 2000 books and resources that I use and I just got done re-loading all if it (took about 5 days and am still not finished). If I do a restore, I will have to start over again.

I am just wondering if anyone else has experience with this problem. I am not going to pay $59 to email Microsoft :sleepy: .

I just have to press the button and then the next time I turn this thing on, I get the message about Windows experienced an unexpected shutdown, or something like that. I get a button about letting microsoft find a solution and that sucker ran for over 3 hours and never did anything else.

I am frustrated and I would appreciate any help anyone can provide me. Thanks in advance and I hope and pray to hear from some of you wonderful people soon.

Mike

When you get this, usually it's because of a driver hanging. Type "reliability monitor" in the search box - You'll be able to use that to see what kinds of errors you are getting. Also Device Manager will tell you if there's something that's having troubles.

The other thing may be spyware/adware - Clean it if you can.

When all else fails, you can force the comp to shut down by typing: shutdown /f in the search box.

Plan B - Drive to Dell Computers world headquarters, ask to see Michael. When he comes out, kick him in the shin and walk away.
