Quick Question

Hey all I'm new to the forums and I wanted to get some information from you guys about any x64 bit OS.

I'm going to build a new computer with these specs

AMD Phenom 9600 Quad Core
Gigabyte MA790FX-DS5
Patriot Extreme 2 x 2GB PC2 6400
OCZ Xstream 700w Power supply

I'm wondering what operating system would work best with that. A lot of people been saying that vista is really buggy but I haven't heard much about the XP version of 64 bit.

I know that due to me having a Quad core and 4 gigs of ram ill have to run a x64 bit OS any recommendations or insight will be greatly appreciated

Re: Quick Question

People said vista was buggy to me, but I tried it and I love it. Rock solid. And furthermore I am also a Mac guy (all my kids and wife use a mac). Microsoft took the best features from OSX and implemented them in vista. 64 bit version is the way to go!

Re: Quick Question

Whats the difference between the XP x64 bit or the Vista x64, explain in lame terms as I don't fully understand all the mumbo jumbo, And which version would best suit me for gaming only.

XP 64 had crappy driver support and hardly any software. Vista 64 is a whole different animal. Fully backwards compatible for software, more stable than 32 bit version of Vista, and faster.

If you don;t know much about PC but want room to learn I would go for the Home Premium.

On the hardware you mention, you'll be selling yourself short if you don't load Vista x64. You'll want to go with Ultimate.

Re: Quick Question

I use the X64 home premium. Only had two small problems which I managed to sort out myself and this was due to the computer self built and none of the files had been indexed. If you install your oem version it can take a while for the computer to settle down but once it is up and running you will not look back.
