Hello Everyone

It seems that i am the only one with that Problem. At least i never found anything about that problem on any Forum.

I have Vista Home Premium 32bit for a couple of months now. And the Drag and Drop never worked and still does not work. I mean it doesn't work at all!!

I allways have to right click, copy, and paste any file. This is getting realy anoying.

Any ideas? Or am i just do stupid...

I'm guessing you're trying to drag file from a folder onto another listed in the folder tree. That particular operation is problematic at best! This is because the folder tree in Windows Vista Explorer is depreciated, and no is longer really suited for primary navigation as it was in XP and older versions of Windows.

If you open two different folder windows and try to drag and drop betwen them, does this solve your problem?

Nope doesn't work either. First i hoped this would be solved with the "single select" patch. But that wasn't it either.

Is there a way one can manualy dissable the drag and drop feature?

So i guess i realy am the only one with that problem?

Are you using the drivers that came supplied with your mouse, or the genric Vista drivers?

You can also check whether any accessibility options that affect the mouse have been turned on. Failing that, try using a different mouse. It may just be that the microswitches of your mouse buttons are worn, and don't stay clicked during a drag-and-drop operation.

Really? I have never had an issue with this sort of operation on my Vista.

Ok i tried that, but now its this:
When i tried to boot the System, i get stuck at the point where you have a blue/green background and it says "please wait". The screen flickers on and off, and thats it.

When i tried to boot from the cd for a repair or clean install, all i get is the blue/green background and that is it again. There is no menue or anything...

My Computer

Mojito,

Didi you check your BIOS settings to make sure that you have the CD/DVD drive listed first in the boot order?

Are you receiving any error messages?

Do you have more than 3GB of RAM installed? If so, temporarily remove the extra RAM and see if you can do the install then.

Hi Shawn

I did change the bios, and it does load from the CD. But i only get to the window Nr.3 in your install guide. But without the menues or buttons, or anything. Just the plain background.

No errors at all.

I tried with 3 and with 2GB no change there.

I reached the point where i would do a clean install. But i don't know how anymore. Except deinstalling the HD and formate it on a seperate PC. But if there is any change on saving the installation that would be great. My backup ist not absolutely complete...

My Computer

Mojito,

I do not know what else to try other than your idea. I hope it works for you.

Do you have the latest BIOS version installed (flashed) for your motherboard?

I have a similar problem. I have noticed from time to time that I cannot drag/drop files or icons anywhere. From explorer, the desktop, network shares, etc.
However, this seems to be an intermittent problem for me, because when I notice it happening, I simply reboot and the problem goes away (at least for a little while).

I cannot say what it causing it, whether its software I have installed that does it, or if it is windows itself. I have been unable to determine the exact MOMENT when I can no longer drag/drop. I just notice it when I attempt to move files and can't. And as I said, rebooting seems to relieve this problem.

I think it may have something to do with the Adobe CS3 suite as I don't recall this happening prior to installing it, and I use dreamweaver 9 frequently.

I will try to test this theory, but the user who made the complaint is not alone....

My Computer

This is a problem I encounter frequently, along with some 278000 others according to Google. Most of all it happens when I try to clean up my desktop by collecting some files and try to drag drop them into a folder on the desktop. It's just one of those many thousand Vista bugs and has absolutely nothing to do with software. A reboot always fixes the problem.
