Did i need to partition both HDDs or can I do that once I get the thing running vista... if so, how?

Don't know if you found the answer to this yourself, but yes, once you load Vista you can use Disk Management to partition and format the second HDD. To get there, go to the Start menu, right-click on Computer and select Manage from the drop-down. Good luck!
