| Newbie | chkdsk Problems Hi, new here ... and I hope you can help me out. DD has a HP Pavilion dv2000. Last week it starting saying that chkdsk needed to run on start up (there might be a problem). At first it ran to 4% and then stopped - appears to freeze. She left it running all night and then brought it to me. I let run over 5 hours. If you bypass the chkdsk everything seems to be fine so we ran Virus Detection software, cleaned the disk and ran defrag. I've have tried running chkdsk from command (chkdsk c: /f) and same problem. What to do ... what to do? |

At cmd prompt typed in this: C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow The system scan ran for over 45 min and then I recieved this: Verification 98% complete. | Newbie | Re: chkdsk Problems Ok, bypassed the chkdsk on start-up. Clicked on Vista icon, typed cmd, right clicked to "run as administrator" and at prompt typed chkdsk This time it ran and finished with "Windows has checked the file system and found no problems". Restarted computer .... chkdsk did NOT run automatically and the computer loaded up to desktop with no problems. Ok, what just happened here? Anything to be concerned about? |
